Well, since you posted that pic that showed that a 29 inch tire fitted on the rear of the Pig.... I was just wondering if anyone set up their Pigs as a dedicated 29er, both front and rear????
The SB8 "almost" fitted. But didn't.

I can't think that either:-

1) Raising the BB 1.5in
or
2) Running a 29in wheel with a 65deg static head angle

would be a good thing.

650B's if you must, but even a 29in wheel even on a rigid fork doesn't work well.

niner carbon rigid fork at 470mm and 29ers f+r should bring it closer to 69 up front, but the seat angle would be 77 or somesuch. :D
bb drops about 1.5 because of the shorter fork at the front, but should raise a maybe 1/2" again because of the rear wheel.

might hit 70 head and 78 seat angles once the raising of the rear of the frame's taken into account, but again, as brant said, that's without the right tire clearance, so unless you'replanning on running 45's...

so a burly steel slack head steep seat'd disc only crossbike? LOL!

Tess, som guy posted about running his pig with a 120mm Reba 29r and 650b's f & b. He seemed to like it. I thought about going that route too but figured that I'd leave it the way it is.
Sounds like you need to go visit Salsa Cycles and take a look at some of their steel 29r HT's.

Why would you want to run a Blue Pig as a 29er, it is a fantastic bike and it rides so well as it is intended for, 26 inch wheels!
If 29ers are your thing, then go with a specific frame. It would be a shame to mess up the angles by running big wheels.
Any way, isn't there a Ragley 29er on it's way?

What size chameleon do you ride?

I have my 18" 06 chameleon set up with the 100mm stem, and was a little wary of the 50-70mm stem recommendation for proper handling with the Ragleys. Love the chameleon, but i would tend to have to make bigger adjustments when climbing the steeps so i wouldn't wheelie...

There's something about the angles on the pig, it's a little shorter, but it isn't uncomfortable...

5'11 and a half, 31 inch inseam, 18 inch blue pig...

I ride more to the XC end of the "all mountain" spectrum (whatever that is). Not so much by choice, but by location. There are a whole lot of huge mountain near where i live, so i cant get lost riding pu and down them all day. There are alot of bike park sort of trails, lots of quick ups and downs. That being said, I much techy rocky rooty twisty stuff. I also love climbing fire roads for miles and bombing down the mountain, when I can make it to one.

I currently ride an 05 chameleon. It is set up with a non layback thomson seat post and a 100mm stem. I ride a 05 fox vanilla 130r.

The eff top tube is right at 23 inches. I feel as if the bike is too short for me, reach wise. I am to upright. Any longer of a stem and I would be too far forward for descents and a lay back seat post would have me riding wheelies up every hill. I am not sure of the size, I think it is a medium. The actual top tube is 22.5 inches.

So I gain about half an inch in ETT length. I know the ragley site recommends not sizing by TT length. Also, half an inch can add up to alot in the saddle. However this might be negated by the fact that I was hoping to loose 20 mm or so fron the stem.

Anyway, I ordered an 18 inch blue pig today, but am having second thoughts. I think I maybe should have waited for a 20 inch. I plan on running a 2010 fox 32 vanilla 140 (with QR15), for whatever thats worth. I was hoping to shorten the stem alittle as well.

Am I worrying for nothing? Should I cancel the order before it ships? I am really excited about this frame and was wanting one soon.....

Any input Brant?

Thanks.

EDIT: i guess i should provide MY dimesions,

right at 6 ft tall, inseam of 33 inches.

So, my frame is waiting at the post office (the didnt leave it bc no one was home.....). hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow.

Quick quesiton:

Has everyones frame come with the headtube and BB shell faced, reamed, chased, etc? I know one post earlier had disk mounts faced when the frame was recieved. I am trying to get mine built before an out of town trip this weekend and am just curious if i need to allow time for head tube and BB facing.

Thanks!

i didnt need to face the BB or headtube. just gave the BB thread a good go with some grease before assembly

Hi, I've started to play with the thought of a rigid 69er Pig, 1x9. A simple bike that will take some beating. The traks in mye area are hilly singletrack with flow but root strewn.

- Nukeproof 26" rigid fork (445mm Axle to crown)
- 29" front wheel w. some 2.5 rubber front
- 2,35 rubber rear

Is this a feasible project, or would I get the geometry all wrong / to slack for a 29" wheel? Any other 29" issues I will run into?

The option is to wait for a steel version of the TD-1. But it's descibed as having a "ass up race position", and I'm looking for the rigid qualities in the TD-1 but want more of a play bike.

...change of thought... 26/26 rigid.

But what should to lenght of the fork be? I assume 455 - 460mm a-to-c as a suspension corrected lenght, but can't find any forks that fits the equation.
Available:
- Orange F8, 450mm a-to-c,
- Nukeproof 29er, 470mm a-to-c
- Surly Karate, 468mm a-to-c

I would like to keep the front as light as possible. Could the Nukeproof be modified?

Any suggestions? Brant, can you give advice?

I just ordered a 16" Blue Pig from Chain Reaction. I've been planning this for months and am super excited to build it up when it arrives! Pictures forthcoming in a week or two.
