So my Blur TR came with raceface AR27 Offset rims with DT Swiss 370 18T ratchet hubs which seem fine but I'm building up a bike for my missus and have decided to give her my wheels.

I ride XC / Trail stuff and regularly ride rockier natural stuff as well (obvs a bit slower). My system weight around 88kg

I have seen DT Swiss XM481 30mm rims which are the bare minimum internal rim width I want to run. I also thought about Stans Arch, a DT Swiss Xm1700 Wheelset (Xm481 with 240's but straight pull).

Don't want to go with carbon. Budget ideally no more than ÂŁ600 GBP

Don't know whether to go with DT Swiss 350 hubs or Hope Pro 5 or some other recommendations?

Looked at Hunt but reckon I'd wreck them.

Any ideas for a stiff, durable, light'ish 30i 29er j-spoke Wheelset for by Blur?

I’d stick with DT hubs if you want bullet proof reliability. Pro5 probably ok too, and support is close to you.

AR30 is a good rim too I believe. Search for posts by MikeSee for what he recommends 👍

I’d get a set handbuilt by a good local builder, who can check tension, re-true after break-in (if needed)

Edit- I’d ask the same question on the UK Singletrack forum - you’ll get a much better idea of what 600 pounds would get you

Thanks for the reply, I'll check out the posts you mentioned. Cheers

I just had a wheel built up recently by Ryan Builds Wheels to go MX on my SC Chameleon. 27.5 EX471 / DT350 / Sapim Race. It was perfectly straight, really nice build.

My 29er set are XM481 / DT350 / Sapim D-Light, built from somewhere else. Think I could’ve gone for D-light on the 27.5 wheel too at 80kg.

You could look at the Reserve SL or HD AL. They should now be coming with the new DT 350 DEG 90T hub, maybe not the pairs that are on sale currently for ÂŁ450. Would be best to check before buying if you want more engagement.

I find 36T ok and always have the 54T option. I chose custom wheels so I could spec brass nipples. Not much love for aluminium nipples online, which most pre built wheels come with.

The XM1700s are 350s aren’t they, not 240s?

If you are sticking with Raceface rims get the ARC30 instead of the AR30. Assuming the correct temper 6069 will be quite a bit tougher than the 6061 in the AC series. Good rule of thumb when looking at any aluminum rim.
Good call, I should have said that 👍.

OP, if you’re interested, check out the reviews of RF wheels (aeffect??) on NSMB.

RF ARC 30 and DT 350 are a great combination, but re-seating tubeless tires on the rim can sometimes be a pain as the offset spoke holes get very close to the tubeless tire retaining shelf. The air will leak out under those holes once the tape is indented a little from regular inflation pressures. Sapim Race and BRASS SecureLock nipples will further improve their reliability; aluminum nipples are prone to rounding off during re-truing operations, once a little corrosion sets in.

Dt 350 with stans rims and competition spokes is the sweet spot for me

also look at i9 enduro s with the 101 hubs and steel spokes
The only I9 hubs that make sense to me are the premium hydra's in coloured version. 101's aren't special (at time of launch they used inferior bearings), and only come in black.

OP is silent, we might be talking to ourselves....I talk to myself all the time, nice to talk to you blokes :geek:

I've built two sets of such wheels. I'm 100kg, never had problems with them. Except I dented one rear rim when I used too low pressure. Still using it. DT Swiss rims are easy to setup tubeless with floor pump, at least with Maxxis, Vittoria, Wolfpack anx Schwalbe tires. D-light spokes are nice and definitely sufficient.

Said that, now I built wheels with Berd spokes and carbon rims and really enjoy them. I recommend to spend little bit extra and get quality Chinese carbon rims. I have BTLOS 30mm wide shallow rims. From time to time they have good discounts.
