Wow!

Get a bike, ride a bike, fix your bike! Didnt know there was any other way!

I get people commenting on my stumpy a lot. Which is weird as i dont see it as any big deal. In fact i just see its many faults. But since i own it, i get to have that opinion.

sometimes i think people drag this crap up just to bring down the company. Vigilante marketing.

Lately there seem to be a lot of pissed of people with nothing to do but complain.

i wouldnt loose a lot of sleep over it.

whats wrong with Specialized

I'm not involved in the "industry" other than I ride a bike.

My first serious bike in 1989 was a Stumpjumper. My latest bike is a Fuse. I like their products.

Carry on.

You can be mad if you want, at least I was honest. I don't necessarily agree with all of it but I can tell you this is the mentality of many people locally. I think some of it is to do with the LBS that sells them located in a preppy/snotty suburb. They've created this atmosphere by treating customers like ****. I've heard some pretty shocking stories.

I'm sure in other areas it's perceived as a different type of brand, but around here it's a Dentists bike.

I'm a strong believer in voting with my wallet. If a company has earned a legitimate reputation for being a**holes I won't be buying from them. Specialized definitely has earned that with their legal history and proprietary parts that don't work just so you can't use something aftermarket. They don't have many proprietary parts now, just the brain shock and some stuff in road cycling.

I'm definitely not going to judging anyone by what they're riding or talking bad about them for riding a certain brand. That's also an a**hole thing to do.

imho they make the greatest mtb shoe ever invented. hands down...
the fit is insane the control is insane
I can even run them loose and still not pull out of them

like helmets, shoes have to fit of course...specialized design fits me fine

Thank you Dave. This is the whole point of this thread.

Not diatribe posts about how bad Specialized is, that are tantamount to defending the f-stains that sat and talked about the OP and his 'son' like a pair of stuck up sorority girls. Draw parallels where parallels may be drawn.

I bet most people own stuff that children on slave labor wages made all the while polluting the environment. Let him who is without sin throw the first stone.

Edit: And I really hope, Mack, that you aren't defending the snobs mocking the OP and his SON, by saying "what's wrong with the snobs at your trail?".
I am not sure how my comment could be misunderstood. Maybe it sounds like a double negative? I was saying that the buys who mock other people's bikes like that are grade-A wankers.

If someone asked me what I thought about their _____ brand bike, I'd critique the bike based on my opinions and experiences. if someone asked what I thought about a specific brand in general, I might have an opinion on way or another if I knew the brand had engaged in something unscrupulous over the years. However, if a stranger rides by on a bike from that brand, I would just keep my damn mouth shut on the topic.

the correct way to address a stranger is "hi, great day for a ride, eh? do you need any help navigating this place? did you ride such-and-such trail yet? do you have enough water? how long has your son been riding with you? that seems like great family fun!"

In my younger years, we never concerned ourselves about Specialized business practices. All we knew was Specialized was pricey, proprietary, and in our minds, catered to the light weight XC spandex clad speed demon market, a target market we weren't a part of. We never dissed a Specialized, or any other, rider.

In my older years... umm... what are we talking about again?

I like Specialized and was shopping their bikes. I had a couple of technical questions, but they didn’t answer the phone and were super slow returning email. I moved on.

But my first mountain bike was a 1990 Rockhopper. It’s still in the garage.

In my younger years Specialized was the $hit

Damn, I'm old.

I’d gladly take a new Enduro and ride the $hit out of it. I’d reach for it WAAAAAAAY before anything from Santa Cruz. Those guys in the OP are tools. They are going to cross the wrong guy and walk away with a broken nose.

Add to shoes and saddles, gloves. I have well over 15 pair of gloves at the moment (I like trying different brands). The Spec are #1. Along with my 2 pair of Spec shoes and 5 saddles.

I don’t currently own any Spec bikes. When I did, the one thing I didn’t like was that if some funky proprietary part failed, that was it. That bike was out of the game for a bit until it got repaired, which sometimes took time. But even that has changed - Spec has moved away from proprietary components. The SJer has none, as far as I know.

It seems as though it’s cool or edgy to hate certain brands. Shimano was once hated but they have made a comeback big time of late. Now SRAM seems to be in the toilet with lots. People seem to currently love to $hit all over Fox. Whatever.

Those guys in the OP deserve a good a$$ kicking. Not for having opinions, but for shooting their mouths off and pulling down the needle on the stoke meter for other riders.

Oh - and pumps. Both frame attached and full size. IMHO Spec make very nice pumps.

I think that if you're hating on other riders for the gear they are riding, you are missing the entire point of mountain biking. While I have owned specialized bikes and chose not to purchase them the last time I bought a bike, I think its great when I see other people riding their bike and in my area, much of the time, peoples first decent mtn bike is a specialized. If your buddy asks your opinion about what bike to get, you are welcome to educate them on why they may want to choose one brand over another, but unless you are buying the bike, you should just accept what they bought and move on.

I do use specialized shoes and saddles exclusively because those are what I have found consistently works for me, I can order a 43.5 size specialized shoe and know that it will fit me and i'll have no knee pain. Same with saddles (although I have heard good things about ergon saddles, I may try them next.)
