I have an '06 Heckler with an 07 Marzocchi AM1 20mm thru axle on it. The rebound side went kaboom and now I'm looking for suggestions for something else. What are you guys running on your Hecklers and how do you like it? I did a search and got some ideas, seems like the Lyriks are a popular choice. Looking to spend 300-400 on something used. Current fork is 160mm, if I drop down to 150mm, or even 140mm, will I notice a big difference? Any major differences between a coil and an air fork? I ride this bike both up and downhill, with a few visits to Winter Park every year. The Marzocchi had adjustable travel, which was kind of nice on some of the uphills. Any suggestions, input, ideas, or harsh criticisms are appreciated.

i just replaced a zoke z1 on my 06 heckler with a coil lyrik . wish id done it 2 years ago. this thing is great. only problem so far is the uturn winds down to lower length while i ride it. shop said i prob have too much lube in the detent ball bearings that hold the knob in place...
im gonna open it up and check it . otherwise i love it very plush.

Bike is an 08 small frame. First fork was a 90-130 mm travel Recon... I think it came with medium springs and was hard and never bottomed out. Replaced that with a 2010 Fox Float RL (32) originally set at 140mm... rebuilt and removed 10mm spacer and now has 150 mm. Full travel once or twice, but always spot on. I do notice a lot of front/back deflection especially when the trails get gnarly, but that's expected on small-diameter forks.

Given a choice, I'd go 36mm stanchion forks with thru-axles. Otherwise happy with my current one.

Thanks for the input everyone. I started looking at some Domains and there seems to be some good deals. What's the difference between a Domain and a Lyrik? I'm not sure I fully comprehend RockShox naming system yet.

As far as removing the 10mm spacer on the fox, can you do that on any of their 140mm forks?

I am sure someone who knows alot more than me about forks can fill in the details but basically the domain has only compression and rebound adjustment-it is a simple strong as hell fork for set it and forget it types. The lyrik has a more sophisticated damping system and is more tunable. I think the domain only comes as a coil fork while the lyrik you can get as coil or air. The domain is also heavier than the lyrik. I think all things being equal most people would say the lyrik is a better fork, but all things are not equal because the domain is much cheaper. For me the domain was a better choice because it was cheap, I didnt really care about weight, I wanted something that would never break even when I "forgot" to service it,and I never really used any of the floodgate adjustments on my old pike anyway.

I have a Fox 36 160 Van on my 10' Heckler frame. I have it set on the stiff side (not plush but I'm beefy) and really feel confident on down hills and it climbs ok stiff. Reason's why I like it is obviously the travel, sometimes makes up for the lack of skill at times. I guess a con would be weight and I liked the Van so much I put one on my Bullit. Prior to the van I had a 32 r 120 air fork on the Heckler and the Van was such a welcomed upgrade. Love it.
The only other fork I have tried was a Bomber 55 ETA on my Bullit and I thought that was junk, immediately replaced it with the van.

I have a Sektor U-turn. Seems a bit stronger than it looks in my eyes, I like it a lot, and was about $400 new. When it blows, I'm probably going to get a Fox 36 Van or Fox RLC 150 fit.

I'm kinda bringing this thread back from the dead, but I thought I'd say thanks to everyone for all the info on this. I was pretty sure I was going to end up getting either a Domain or a Lyrik, but patience paid off and I ended up with a Fox 36 Talas. Can't wait for it to get here. Again, thanks for all of your suggestions!
