I rode Monday and could only eek out 9 miles. My heart rate was pegged and I couldn't keep it in zone. I dragged ass the last mile or so. Temp: 105 degrees.

I decided not to ride yesterday (Temp: 109 degrees)

I rode today and got in 18 miles. I was fairly cooked by the end but felt pretty good for the whole ride. Temp: 95 degrees.

Yep....

I was very aware of my heart rate on my Monday ride. I worked pretty hard to keep it from pegging. Frequent breaks, water on the head and in the belly, etc. Even with a slow pace and frequent breaks, I called off my intended 18 miles half way through.

At about 8 miles, I couldn't get my heart rate below 165. The last half mile or so was a downhill finish. I was in my middle/granny and I couldn't keep my HR below 170.

Just for grins, I left my HR monitor on. My HR didn't drop to 120 until I had driven several miles in the AC.

Where do you live for that kinda heat ??
Pretty much anywhere in the central US the last few weeks, It was around 109 this afternoon with a heat index of 126 when I got home to go for a ride (West TN). I ended up just doing a fast paced ride around some paved paths near my neighborhood so I'd be close to the house when I started feeling the heat too bad. I made it about 40 minutes before having to head back to the house.

Only gonna be 102 tomorrow, so hopefully will get in a good ride.

I actually like hot temperatures and I've been enjoying this heatwave. I moved south for this reason. Sick, I know. But exercising hard in it? No thank you. I'll stick to my early morning rides and the pool at the Y for my cardio until the temps are a little more reasonable. Rides later in the day will just have to be short and easy for me until then.

But if you race and will potentially face 100+ degree conditions on race day, you'll have to train for that won't you? That's about the only reason for pushing your limits in this heat that makes any sense to me.
