Using Shimano BB Tool with Torque wrench

I’m looking to use the Shimano BB tool that comes with the new XT 12 speed crankset with my torque wrench and looking at options. The tool is the TL-FC41 and it does not have a drive socket. I could use a regular wrench on it, but I want to torque the BB and chainring lock ring properly. I measured the flats on the tool and they are 32mm. I looked up 32mm sockets and 32mm crowfeet and the cheapest options, by far, are sockets for car oil filters. Since I’ll only be using this a handful of times, I’d rather not get an expensive adapter. My concern, however, is that the 32mm sockets made for car oil filters are softer metal. This is based on my highly uninformed belief that oil filters are soft. Can anybody speak to this? Would I be ok with the oil filter socket? Or should I buck up and buy a standard socket or crowfoot?

Thanks

Youre right in the long run that hardened sockets last longer but practically it will only matter when removing a siezed bolt with a rattlegun. I've never heard of a 'soft' oil filter socket, usually you want a harder socket for soft bolts because soft bolts more easily deform.

Harbor freight has a 32mm deep impact socket for $5. Lots of options i can see.

What ^he said. What I find with really cheap sockets and wrenches is not necessarily the alloy but the tolerance. With that even most department store brand tools are pretty good these days.

A few years ago I needed a 32mm socket for my fox36. I bought a 32mm socket for a Saturn oil filter (from pepboys). I use an angle grinder to make it chamferless and small enough to clear the crown. It was not soft, definitely forged. Back then the cheapest fork socket for this job was around $30, if I was to do it today I'd just get the Park 32mm socket.
