I'm 6' 1" with 34" inseam, and with a 50mm stem, the large Spur's geometry is almost perfect for me. It's spoiled me to the point where I may have difficulty finding my next frame. I love the Spur but lately, I've been doing longer rides and have even done some endurance races so I've been considering a change. The perfect frame for me would have the same geometry as the Spur, 500-600g lighter frame, 2 water bottles inside the frame, and the cherry on top would be some sort of SWAT/Downtube storage. I don't know of anything that fits my wishlist currently but I'm holding out hope someone will release a bike in the next year that fits the bill.

The new Rocky Element has about the same geo (even slacker), can take two bottles and has a little more anti-squat it seems. I don’t care much for the looks but it seem to fit your list rather well.

Mike compared the Spur to the Epic Evo without pointing out that a Large Epic Evo almost perfectly corresponds the medium Spur.
Yup, I'd be on an XL Specialized (I think they call it Size S5) to get the geo figures I need.

I remember back in the day where all the mags were recommending Medium frames for 6ft riders "for chuckability". o_O

What about an Epic Evo. Similar geo but lighter frame with 2 bottle cages.

The Geometry on the Large Epic Evo is similar but not close enough, shorter reach, shorter wheelbase, and 1.5* slacker seattube angle. The large Spur actually sits sort of between the Large and XL Epic Evo frame. I looked into getting a XL Epic Evo but the jump in effective top tube and seat tube were just too much.

Yes, the element looks like a fantastic bike, it's just a bit too similar to the Spur, I wouldn't go through the trouble of switching to it just for the 2nd water bottle mount. I'm really nitpicking here with my wishlist which just goes to show how great of a bike the Spur is. The Spur is actually the first trail bike I've kept for 2 full seasons and unless something really spectacular gets released I'll probably keep it for next season as well. Bikes are pretty damn good nowadays.

Got some new shoes! Contis front and back, Trail King + Mt King. WAY better than the Maxxis tires that came with the bike imo. Lighter, faster rolling, lasts several times as long, grip at least as good.

Also pics of some local shrooms and raspberries, the big red one is a mature Red-Capped Scaber Stalk Bolete, we also have lots of King Bolete or Porcinis but I didn't find any edible ones. I did last week, they tend to be up a little higher...

Nice pictures Dave,
I’ve ordered a couple of continental tires on your advice.
I hoping they work great for me too!
Thanks
Ezra
Thanks, I got a new Samsung phone a while ago, the camera is pretty amazing.

This is the 2nd Mt King I've had, but 1st ride on the Trail King. I was surprised how much faster the bike felt with the TK up front in place of the OEM Dissector. It is 100g lighter and has less rolling resistance. Normally I don't worry about having a fast rolling front tire, but on the Spur it seems to make a big difference. With Contis, climbing is noticeably easier, the bike maintains speed better, and grip is excellent.

The water bottle issue could be solved by using something like the Wolf Tooth B-RAD system which would allow you to run two bottle cages side by side.

Also, plenty of ways to do on-frame storage i.e. Wolf Tooth / One Up systems. That way you could keep the Spur. Add in some ultra-light parts / wheels and you've got yourself an endurance race bike.

Just pulled the trigger on my fist pair of carbon wheels. A pair of Newmnen Advanced SL XA 30 with DT240 hubs. Claimed weight just below 1300g 😀.
Hope they hold up! Anyone else on Newmen carbon rims? The alu-versions have been great and won some German durably test.

Seems to be a very good choice.
I have their full wheel sets (carbon and alu) never had an issue with the rims which are still true but the hubs are so so, one had some play and the customer service just changed one bearing for a non standard dimension, which means I cannot buy their standard bearing kit the day I will need to change the bearings again.
And my pair of silver hubs is stained, they told me that I have probably used a bad product on it. I’ve other brand raw aluminum parts on the same bike which still look immaculate…

GX / Deore build riders, I need help figuring out what lower headset bearing I need. FSE No.57E comes in a few different flavours.

The bearing that's in there is numbered MR019 / TH-073DJ. Dimensions 40 x 51.8 x 7.5mm / 36/45 degrees. Impossible to find in stock anywhere however you can find the MR127 / TH-073E in stock easily which is also listed as fitting FSE No.57E headsets but has a height dimension of 8mm instead of 7.5mm.

It appears as if the Spur has the FSE No.57E-1 version of the headset that uses an old Trek standard which takes the 7.5mm one (MR019). Has anyone tried an MR127 in the Spur?

Regarding SID lower leg service: are you guys using the new Maxxima plush oil or regular RS 0w30? I already have the RS oil for the Lyrik Ultimate. Is it worth buying the new Maxima oil?

The only forks that spec the new fluid are the new 2023 forks. The SID isn’t part of those. Unless you have a ton of money, the old fluid is 110% fine and I very much doubt you would notice the difference.

Transition prices up.
I'm looking at the Transition website and I see that prices just went up, at least in the Spur......😕😔
I put a down payment on my Spur back in November 2021 and expect it to arrive in September. Unhappy about that of course. I do not expect any surprises when I get it. Not sure if other folks seen where the LBS increased the cost.
