I feel like transition cornered themselves: plenty of sales going on, plenty of brands already release UDH-compatible 150mm bike few months ago that might go on sale close to Black Friday and Christmas. Current frame is 2.5k, new one will be close to 3k, which is hard sell nowadays: people who wanted new bike probably got one in the past few months.
they’re probably sitting on too many v2’s that are gonna be obsolete when they release the v3

The timing of the Smuggler release was awful for them too. Lots of bad luck. Plus the V2 Sentinel’s geo is still plenty relevant.

Excited to join this discussion.

Pulled trigger on V2 last month after a forever debate on a bunch of other options because the deal was just too good, presumably in anticipation of V3 (bought I think the last Ti Grey through ProBike with a CR swap over the X2).

Now loving the range of set-up/testing options. First and foremost for me is BB height/crank length (Blue Ridge rocks and roots can be brutal if you’re too low - V1 was not tolerable w/out cascade and better tune).

Also playing with fork offset/HTA and reach/stack and loving that the ATCs are all over the place (Lyric shorter than AVg; Mezzer taller; Fox right in the middle).

Set it up plus 1 (Wolf tooth) so I can go super smuggler at 160 with roughly 65hta 29/29 with the long offset Lyric all the way to 63 HTA with a short offset Mezzer at 170 in MX mode.

The changes in reach, stack, BB height across the range are material and with different travel and shock options you can play with this until the cows come home (but the other bikes end up in pieces laying around the garage!).

Great bike, and serious fun for the tinkerers out there!

IMO in frame storage is overrated. I strap a tube to my top tube, and I'm happy.

Beyond in-frame storage and UDH, what other updates could they make to the bike? The kinematics are all pretty good, the geo is what is in fashion nowadays, perhaps a bit more slack than other 150mm bikes. Maybe they'll bring back the loam gold colorway?

Size-specific chainstays. I’m selling my XXL because the weight distribution feels weird. If they update anything that would probably be the most useful thing to add.

I'm predicting mullet compatibility (and they will remove the Patrol from the lineup).
Also internal rear brake line routing, which seems obvious.
Personally I hope, that they won't increase the weight of the frame (no in-frame storage).

Has anyone converted a v2 Sentinel to UDH/Transmission?
AL V2 frames are already compatible, so I figure you are referring to carbon.

Transmission, yes.

UDH, no. It might be harder because you may have to remove some material from the dropout.

Not a perfect picture (I generally don’t wash bikes - dirt tells a story), but with removal of the red bushing from the install and the purchase of the Transition UDH axle, Transmission fits great. This is documented elsewhere between the Spur and Sentinel pages.

Okay so I tried to put my Transmission on my V2 and ran into a little problem:

The outer diameter of the black spacer (removed from the red sleeve) is just a hair too big. Anyone have a quick fix? The spacer is metallic so I don’t really have an ability to grind it down…

That washer is in the wrong spot. This picture is from my Spur, but it’s the same dropout design. Put it in between the outside of the chainstay and the inside of the outer flange of the derailleur.

I can’t recommend enough to follow the SRAM install guide (except for the part about having a compatible frame 🤪). Getting the axle and derailleur to align properly depends upon going step by step.

The yellow part in this diagram represents the remaining washer part of the bushing and where it goes.
