I'm really torn on whether to keep the float x as a spare (for when something inevitably blows due to trunnion  ) and get another nice air shock like SD ult air, or go a different way, keep the float x as my air shock (which has performed well and no issues) and then get a SD coil ultimate for a good mix of having best of both worlds?! what you guys think?
Wait... so it's not just the X2? It's something specific to the sentinel? Thats a bummer if so, just got a sentinel lol.

Damn... that sucks. Transition say anything about that if so? Surely it’s not supposed to be popping shocks like that.
i think there aware of it, certainly fox uk is aware of it - seems trunnion is a pretty stupid design for most part

ps I just messaged/conversation with you wouldn’t mind picking your brain ref the new sd ultimate

This is kind of embarrassing but can anyone provide pointers (technique or bike setup) for tight switchbacks?

This bike is an absolute blast. I'm getting really close to some old PRs that I was worried I'd never improve on. But for the life of me, I cannot get through some switchbacks without putting my foot down. I figured it would I would just need to set up early, but I'm still struggling on a few. Especially when I'm also worried about keeping the front end weighted so I don't wash out.

I knew this was the weak point of the Sentinel before I got it. Do I just need more time on the bike? I'd rather not have to size down for one aspect of riding. The bike really does feel great everywhere else.
Keep your fore aft balance the same you would if you were riding a non tight turn on a trail similarly steep. If you push the bike away from you mid turn you will wash out. From there all your other cornering skills apply, but you might find you have to muscle the bike over a bit more to find grip on flat turns.

I find that when I'm climbing I can still navigate all the same switchbacks I could on bikes with more dated geo, I just twist the handlebars over quite a bit more and pedal.

I'm 175lb kitted and snagged a 400# spring, I get 403# from TFTuned. The guy I chatted with at the shop assured me 350# would be too light, and 450# likely too firm. FWIW I observe about 20% static sag as opposed to 28% - felt good on trail but if there were a cheap 375# option I'd probably try it.
Following up on this for anyone interested, I revisited my preload and was able to get about 25% sag at the RS-recommended minimum preload of “2 turns.” I must have previously misjudged the initial spring contact point.

Still working on getting dialed into balance with the fork, but overall I remain happy with this new shock.

Definitely yes with a cascade link, not sure about otherwise (but also interested in the answer).
The stock 62.5 mm stroke shock with the Cascade Link gives you less than 1 mm of clearance between the seat stay and seat tube at full bottom out on a Large carbon frame (and you're not allowed to run the 62.5 mm with the Cascade Link on an Al frame). I am skeptical anybody has run a 65 mm stroke shock w/ a Cascade link without any damage.

I

thats good to know - so it seems the oil/blowing/leak is not just a fox x2 thing then?! i hadnt heard of ANY rs SD doing this, but to hear yours has gone 3 times doesnt sound great ....

have you had any time on a x2 to compare to the new SD ultimate as i really am on the cusp of buying one too - standard tune looks good like as transition would spec it too which is a bonus
I haven't, but I spoke directly to Transition and they recommended the new Ultimate Air. The standard aftermarket tune works great.

Interesting, thanks for the correction. As I was reading through forums deciding whether to go 60mm or 65mm (the options in stock) I couldn’t find confidence in 65mm with stock link, but I recall finding instances of 65mm with the Cascade link. Maybe I missed that they were only on the larger-than-large frame sizes.

65mm stroke didn’t clear on my carbon xxl with the stock link or the cascade link. In both instances the seat stay bridge contacted the seat tube at full compression

There are some less diligent people in for a surprise I guess.
I was one of them, when I initially put the 65mm stroke on I only checked reservoir clearance. Ended up checking the seatstay clearance a couple rides later and realized. Luckily I didn’t have any harsh bottom outs to cause any problems

has anyone had there rear x12 axle works its way loose at all? weird last night - i rode some rowdy terrain, after the 1st descent, back wheel felt loose, undid the axle, tightened back up, looseness gone......2nd descent, the same, 3rd descent the same.....never had this before to my knowledge - wheels fine with newish bearings in etc just seemed really odd, ive always run grease on the axle so probably a bit on the threads too but its never worked loose before

checked all the bolts on the frame to make sure its not them and they are all tight inc trunnion

any ideas?

I keep purple loctite around for this kind of stuff. Dunno if it’s the best solution but it’s definitely better than gnashing loose threads together.
