Tightening Barrel Adjuster Back In

Hi guys,

I loosened the barrel adjuster for my rear derailleur too much and now when I tried to turn it back in, only the actual barrel adjuster gets screwed in.

The black ferrule doesn't go back in with the barrel adjuster.

Could anyone tell me how to get it to go back tight with the barrel adjuster?

Probably going to have to disconnect the wire at the derailleur pinch bolt, push the ferrule in, pull all slack out of cable, shift to the highest (smallest cog) gear, pull slack as you go, screw the adjuster all the way in, pull the cable slack, tighten the pinch bolt, adjust from there via barrel adjuster.

thanks for the help guys.

The pinch bolt at the derailleur end is all loose; the wire not clamped right now.

When I push the ferrule in and screw the barrel adjuster in, the barrel adjuster would go into the thread, even all the way in.

The ferrule would also go in along with it, but in the end, I could still pull the ferrule out of the barrel adjuster.

There's no tension on the ferrule to prevent it from coming out

Cable is loose then... follow my guide and the de-slackening of the cable will put tension on the housing/ferrule to keep it there.
