I picked up a Huckleberry GX Spire Carbon XL using Transition’s DTC option. Bike arrived a few days ago and I unpacked it and set it up. I gotta say, Transition’s direct sale program might have a few kinks to work out in their assembly process:
- One of the bolts on the top tube mount was stripped, right out of the box. I haven’t solved this yet. It won’t be removable without chiseling the head.
- The OneUp dropper makes a loud “double clunk” sound when moving from fully dropped to fully extended. After consulting with OneUp I went through the quick grease procedure which made it a little better, but the dropper seems a little flimsy and continues to make weird noises. Anyone else had these issues? I really love OneUp products and I wanted to love their dropper, but so far I am worried it’s going to break.
- The bike seemed pretty noisy for a brand new rig while I was testing it in my driveway. I took it for a ride on some local trails and it began making VERY loud squeaking sounds nearly constantly. My riding buddies were convinced it was a linkage problem - after some investigation, it seems that the trunnion mount bolts were not greased at all by whoever built the bike. After greasing them properly and reinstalling the bike is now basically silent (except for the weird dropper noises).
I am still very stoked about the bike. My guess is that Transition is shipping consumers the same package it sends to dealers (the included reflectors and dork disc were a clue), and dealers would likely work out these Issues before selling the bike.
