Just went through all the pivots on the two aluminum Spires we have. Gotta say, this is the easiest frame to perform that service on as far as greasing/loctite goes. All the spacers and washers are captive.

All the pivots were dry from the factory though with no threadlocker. Should have done this up front.

If the lower shock bolt is shanking out, just put another small washer under the head. Not ideal, but it'll work. Or just get a fully threaded bolt. Or hack/re-thread one with a different shoulder length.

Installed new chainstay pivot hardware from Transition after grinding down the axle portion of each piece by 1mm. Also ground off the half moons on the flip chips per their direction.

Also, as Arider pointed out, there was no foam on any of the internal housing. I half-assed a piece on the dropper housing. The result on today’s ride? Little change. That said, I’m now pretty sure it’s the cables; I can feel them thwacking through the pedals. I’ll be doing a cable swap with foam this week.

The only other thing I’m thinking is anecdotal stuff from the Sentinel thread where Float X owners are having some noise issues with the shock. I’ve had two Float X (Spire and ‘22 StEvo) and wasn’t feeling it on either. But I’ll start with cable and see what happens.

Anyone know of a angle adjusting headset that will work with the ZS56 top/bottom cups on the Spire?

I have a Spire with a Cascade link and currently a 180mm fork out front. I like the low position for the SA/BB height/shock leverage, but wish I could go 1->1.5 degree steeper for the HA. It is currently 62 with a 180 fork.

I could go 170 with the fork to help a little, but this would also steepen the SA/drop BB which I don't want to do.
A steeper HA would slacken the SA more, and raise the BB a touch which is perfect!

Wolf Tooth makes one that is ZS56 for the lower cup, but ZS44 for the upper.
I am going to get in touch with them to see about a ZS56 top cup for the smaller bearing, but I'm not hopeful.

Anyone know of anything else currently out there?

I may do the same.

I believe I found the source of the rattle on my alloy spire. I put some 3M closed cell foam on the left lower shock bolt. Quieted it down a whole lot. I don’t have any play in the rear yet. But I will keep checking to make sure my hardware is correct. I’m still dialing in the suspension, and will update my settings. Next step is to add a spacer or two in the fork and one in the rear.

A grip of foam on the internal cables solved my noise issues.

That said, the Spire isn’t the right bike for me. If anyone is in the market for a nicely upgraded alloy XL, it’s listed on PB.

If anyone is experiencing the Fox Float X2 leaking down air or having air bubbles in the damper when the bike is brand new, the PUSH 11-6 makes a pretty damn nice upgrade...balances well with the Mezzer that I'm trying up front just for shits'n'giggles.

How are you liking the Mezzer up front? I just bought an Alloy NX build and thought about swapping the Mezzer Pro off my Honzo ESD with the Bomber Z1 that it came with. Haven’t had a chance to ride the Spire with the Z1 but Im sure it won’t hold a candle to the Mezzer.

Just added an Alloy Spire to the garage. I was hoping for a GX build but I couldn’t get a hold of one so I’ll just upgrade bits as I go.

My Stumpjumper is the daily driver. I just am often not in love with bikes with this much travel. Yeah, too big, but really too much reach for my personal taste. I knew it before buying, but thought I’d give it a whirl. FWIW, I do like it better than the new Enduro.

Hey Spire owners,

Picked up a spire and working on dialing in the suspension. The X2 is alright so far but think I will eventually want to move toward a coil. I have a Push 11-6 from my sentinel that is 205 x 57.5, was considering bolting it on to the spire to test it out, by my math the rear travel at 57.5 stroke should be around 150. are there any other issues than the travel loss going down this route? Spring rate may need alteration, but I figure why not give it a shot.

The Push works really well on the Spire, with increased compression damping settings (as opposed to my first impression which was that it needed to be softer).

The one I had on my Enduro beforehand was 205x60 I think, and needed to get it reconfigured to 205x65 for the Spire. The reconfigure cost was prohibitive due to the bottoming system, so it ended up being something like $400+. Just sold it and bought a new one.

The balance of the bike will probably be a bit off with a shorter shock on the rear, and the corresponding stiffer spring that's necessary for it.

I looked into getting the Sentinel shock reconfigured but Push wouldn't even offer a quote because it was the older version. Annoying, but probably wouldn't have been worth it like you said. Eventually I'll end up selling it, but not really in the budget currently to get a new replacement, been scouting the PB buy/sell for used EXTs and 11-6s. First few rides on the X2 I've missed the small bump/ground hugging capability but likely need to put more time into dialing it in.

Wow, that's kind of unacceptable. I would be extremely annoyed to spend that kind of money on a "reconfigurable" shock only to have it go obsolete and not be reconfigurable at all. I guess I won't count on this being a long term item.

Weather is interfering with my tuning, but I’m getting close. To increase small bump compliance and the ground hug I have decreased low speed compression and increased low speed rebound more than transition and Lars suggest, and added a
Spacer (2 total now) so I could lower air pressure a tad.
Still playing and will post numbers when dialed. I’ll just say in my opinion most people use too much lsd and not enough lsr. It won’t be as smooth as a coil though, but close.

Put a Fox DHX coil on there, awesome shock and less than an EXT. Very easy to tune.

Cool thing about the new DHX is that you can change the stroke between 60, 62.5, and 65mm without taking it apart. So you can play with travel as well.

The 2021 Float X2 is the worst shock Fox has produced in decades in my opinion. If you don't have air in it already, you will soon...
