Yes, worth trying the Judy personally. I didn’t believe to the flex either and can’t notice it in the SID or Fox34 compared to my Zeb. All these in different bikes and usage of course.

Might be that the Judy did not flex and it was only the damper I was unhappy, but felt it was even worse when turning. Best to try it your self and decide then.

And no, I’m not a badd ass. Just a normal 40-yesr old guy with three years of MTB experiene and on the slower end. For Chisel I’m not even looking to hit the downs fast as I have better bikes for that.

 

My frame is coming light blue (gloss chameleon/arctic blue) frame and most of my build ordered! Obviously stem length is personal but what are people running on these?

 

I have tired a 50, 60, and 70mm stem. I ended up staying with the 70mm.

Hi everyone, I just purchased new chisel 2023, In the carton box, it appears that my bike is size M, however, I see the tube length of my bike is more shorter than the M size. Could you please give me some advices?

 

I won't confess to being a geo expert, but there are a few questions that stand-out. Which tube are you referring to - top tube, seat tube, down-tube? From where to where are you measuring from and does that measurement (starting and end point and angle) match the Specialized geometry chart? Perhaps more importantly, how does the bike fit you - are you in a comfortable position, not too stretched nor too cramped? If it fits and you are comfortable then the tube measurement is an irrelevant in my opinion. I would also look at that front hydraulic hose routing which seems quite "looped" and an accident in waiting and risk of getting caught in the spokes.

 

Hello. Does anyone know if the 2022 and 2023 frames would accept a 34 tooth sprocket? I have not purchased one yet, so I can not compare.

Yes mine came with a RaceFace 34T chain-ring on a RaceFace Affect 175mm crank on a size Medium chisel.

 

Hi, had the chisel for a while and in the process of changing the fork to a Fox 34SC. The original wheels do not fit though which is a first for me and the hub ends are like large discs that fit well into the RS Judy. I'm guessing I need to adapt them, but cannot find specific branding.

A bit of googling, and I've found this, :- Specialized S205900002 EDC Front L/R Set TA 15x110mm 19mm OD

Looks the part but wont know till fitment. Anyone had to deal with this or know the correct kits?

I reckon you have the 15mm torque caps which are specifically there to help improve engagement with the Rockshok forks. Not essential per the below link. So imho you just need the "standard" 15mm end caps.

Has anyone had issues with the cable rattling noise? I'm building up my frame this week and was just wondering if I should take any preventative measures while I'm at it

 

You could use a internal housing damper that wraps around the cables

 

I haven't noticed any issues with cable rattling. Don't think that my LBS did anything special when they built it.

I have a chisel geared and a epic set up as single speed. The epic is a blast set up as a single speed so go for it. I tried a phil wood ebb on the epic but the carbon frame did not allow full rotation of bb so limited its tension adjustment and did not work well with gearing I was running. I put a Paul Melvin on it instead and really like it on my hometown trails.

Using it in Central TX now and not liking the tensioner nor using a lightweight carbon frame in the tech. So going to ss the chisel as I ride it like a ss anyway even though it has gears. The phil wood and trickstuff ebbs should work fine with the chisel so going to give it a shot as I have the phil i still have.

 

The fuse is designed to be run SS, that’s the way to go.

 

I already have the chisel though. Not looking to buy another frame. Just more or less a fun experiment. Looks to be a fairly cheap conversion.

Having now tried the chisel at 120mm, i like it very much. Feels rowdier, the position is slightly more relaxed and my hands just fall in place at the right height and angle. I even feel climbing and clearing obstacles have improved and turning is more stable; I find myself able to hold trackstands for longer.

 

 

Sweet looking bike and build. Is that the Roval Control SL Carbon seatpost or another model or brand? If the Roval Control SL, any thoughts versus other seatposts you have ridden on this or other HT bikes?

I want to swap out my 2021 Chisel fork with a rockshox sid select 29. How do I know if it will fit? Seller says it's from a 2021 epic Evo with 120mm travel, 44mm offset, boost, steer tube 6.75". Thanks.

 

Pretty sure all the 2021 Sid forks will fit a '21 Chisel.

I think my concern would be with how much they've cut the steerer tube down. If the previous owner was running a slammed stem then they may have cut it down a bunch. Might be worth reaching out to the previous owner to see how they were running it on their Epic Evo.

 

I have ran a 17mm & 17.5mm (6.69' & 6.88") steering tube on my Large chisel. With the 17.5mm (6.88) tube I can only run two 5mm spacers. I also have a cane creek 70 headset installed, which I think is about 5mm taller than the factor headset.

So, that fork will fit on your bike as long as your not riding a XL frame. If you are running a Med or Small you should have plenty of room because the head tube is 15mm shorter than the large frame.

 

Ok good to know. I do have a size medium chisel. I'll have a lbs install since I'm new to all this.

 

Interestingly, the a2c height of the 100mm sid sl is pretty close to the r7 at 120mm.

Greetings, for tubeless setup did you guys have to remove and replace the original rim tape on the stock rims? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

 

You don't have to, but I learned the hard way that it was a bad idea not to replace it. The tape that comes on the stock rims is not actually tape, but a very tight fitting rim strip. After time the sealant will start passing by the strip and get to the nipples & spokes. After less than 1 year I started to get some corrosion on the nipples.

So, my recommendation is to spend $20 and get some good rim tape and re-tape the rims.

Anybody running 120mm fox 34 on their chisels? I weigh around 87 kilos, big belly haha. Having a hard time deciding on which fork to get. Fox 34 factory stepcast 120mm/100mm or fox 32 factory sc 100mm.

 

I run a 120mm 34 Stepcast on my Epic hardtail (same geo as the Chisel). Same weight as you as well, on an XL frame. I prefer it- just enough extra cush and confidence vs. the SID Brain it originally came with. I removed ~15mm of spacers from under the stem when I made the change, and everything feels great.

 

The Stan's Sealant bottle will have the dosage listed on the back label.

 

i have a Chisel comp on order, should compliment my enduro bike well.
