I had SRAM GX 11-speed and GX 12-speed drivetrains, that used only the thumb for both up/down shifting.

Now I have a Shimano XT M8100 ISPEC EV 12-Speed shifter on my new bike, and I have noticed that it uses only the thumb for both up/down shifting just like SRAM.

Is it new with Shimano? I recalled that Shimano shifters used the thumb and finger for up/down shifting...

I tried it today.
The trigger works great in both directions, thumb or index finger.
I was not aware of that, but now that I do I really like it.
THANKS !!!
I was somewhat surprised after riding it for years that I could upshift a couple of gears at a time with the thumb push. I had ridden the pull trigger for so many decades that it didn't occur to me.
