Any tips for dispersed camping in my camper van in the SLO area? I have a spot in mind off a ridge but not sure if it is legit. PM me if you know the area and willing to help. :)

I've stayed at Montana de Oro, Moro state park, and Pismo which are all sweet but sometimes it is nice to be away from the RVs.

If you head out to Pozo area there is a lot of space to park a camper van. There are lots of OHV's trails out there so you'll find some people out there. You can probably make it up to high mountain lookout in a two wheel drive. There probably won't be anyone else up there. You can probably find some spots to pull over in Lopez canyon also.

I've spent the night in pullouts on Stagecoach parallel 101 while passing through a few times. It's fine for a quick late night stop, but you can hear the freeway all night. I'm a sound sleeper and it doesn't bother me, but others wouldn't like it.

Look into the Cerro Alto campground on Highway 41 also. You can ride singletrack straight from the camp and connect to all the West Cuesta goodies. Here is a great guidebook PDF I just found.

Awesome, thanks guys. This is for a short trip with a couple buddies from Truckee that have never visited SLO. I am thinking 1st night staying at either Menso or Beaver's suggestion and 2nd night stay at MdO (if I get a spot) to roll straight from camp to the trails.

Friday: short ride (Mt madonna or ?)
Saturday: Cuesta Ridge trails
Sunday: MdO
