I ride both the E and the regular about 50/50 at this point. So used to swapping back and forth that my calibration is about the first corner or two.
Yeah, I think the key will be constant constant swapping between bikes. I do notice this with changing between dh rig and enduro or to hardtail aswell. If I ride one constantly for a while all others feel weird.

Two different weapons and I choose accordingly based on the experience I'd like to have that day. I definitely don't consider my experiences on my Levo artificial...I also shuttle and ride lifts, and have a dual sport bike. All of those could be considered artificial I suppose, but you guys have done lost it. LOL I enjoy all of it, I can ride more days a week, and life is good.
Well said. I find it amusing that there's constant bickering about e-bikes cheating or being artificial but its perfectly acceptable to jump on a shuttle or gondola for the day and ride dh.

My feeling on the 'artificial' comments are that it's simply a function of riding a heavy bike with lots of suspension travel, and at higher speeds. This has the effect of smoothing out a lot of the small bumps and undulations that would be more noticeable if you were riding a lighter bike and at a slower speed. I'd call it an observation more than bickering. These are tools like anything else, and they're going to have some drawbacks. Completely reasonable to discuss this sort of thing in a thread specifically comparing ebike to analog.

Good point. Another key reason why some feel ebike feels artificial or unfulfilling is because of the lack of required 'pain and suffering'. Let's face it, some of the most memorable mountain bike ride are the ones where we barely survived the climb or the ride back home. It's in moments of great despair that we find triumph. Or something like that.

Sooooo, for ebiking, suffering/doubt/failure is usually optional. Thus the triumph of reaching that peak or sweetening that downhill is somewhat muted. It is funa dn fulfilling in so many ways. But in the challenge and achievement side, E is not at the same level as analog.

Why isn't it as fulfilling on an E? You just need to go bigger, better, more and achieve what cant be achieved with legs alone. Case and point it did 13 runs 2600m of descending on the gondola on Friday. Then I jumped on the e and smashed another 1000m vert in 2 hours totalling 3600m for the day. I could not have smashed the additional 1000m with with legs alone. Infact I got back in the dark have virtually descended the last 200m vert by braille.

The 2 hours 1000m vert on the e was may more intense than 2 hours of gondola.

Do I feel artificial or unfulfilled? Hell no. It was farken awesome.

I think we need to stop comparing apples to banana and stop being disappointed a banana is not an apple.

Bananas are bananas!....

Heyy, I'm an 8-year ebiker so is have no issue with fulfillment and stuff. But this is how some people feel, and they don't ebike or try it and give it up.

I think when suffering and failure are optional, the achievement or satisfaction is not as high for some.

Achievement, personal records, and KOMs are all muted, too when e-assisted. So folks who live for that, celebrating and comparing to others, are not as stoked.

For me, I stopped chasing these records on ebike. KOM'ing up a hill, riding 20k feet in one day, getting 10k feet on my one Levo battery. All interesting but not really that meaningful. It's hard to compare since no one knows how strong my motor is, my battery size, and my true effort.

So I just ride E with the biggest smile and pursue great adventures. I TAKE THE ANALOG BIKE when I need a PR or a measure.

Fair enough, Who has the biggest grin wins.

I once ran out of battery outside of the cars sightline, there was some pain and suffering there 🤣

Rrright? I've had my fair share of dead batteries and broken motors. I just change my mindset and put my analog face on. :)
Another reason for the Specialized Turbo SL. There is no resistance from the motor when your battery goes dead! It turns into a very close analog bike.

I've had the same experience with my Relay with the Fazua motor and as such I rode a good part of the Austin Greenbelt the other day with the motor turned off just because the max safe speed could already be reached on leg power alone while not even straining that hard.

It's not the weight that hurts me nearly as much as the DD/ 3c tires that I have mounted on it. But they are so nice when the motor is turned on.

Yes and that is why I wish I could swap in a Creo 28mph motor on my SL - for that exact reason of the annoying low speed cutoff on bike paths!

The Levo SL has almost no drag! The Levo motor has a ton of drag and it's de-motivating to help out a lot. This is felt in motor-off situations and when going past the 20mph shutoff.

Nice. Distilled to a fine, succinct point. I like it!

I have two very distinct performance machines that take my life/fun/experience quotient to the next level.

Life is good!
