Pima Dynamite conditions

I haven't ridden PD in a couple of years and one of my newer riding buddies hasn't ever ridden it at all and wants to give it a try. The last time I was out there, it was very sandy and didn't inspire me to return. I rode the sections closer to the Pima/Dynamite intersection, however, and have since heard that the best stuff is more easily reached from the northern end of Alma School.

Has anyone been out there lately? How does it look?

Thanks

too bad your buddy wants to go out there to ride. Do you have to go with? I personally have not been out there in a couple of years. I have no intention of ever going back. I can't imagine the conditions would have improved. I guess if he wants to try it and get it out of his system what are you going to do. I suggest start real early and if he feels it starts to suck ass get back in the vehicle and go somewhere else. Sorry, I am not a big fan of p&d.

I always have a good time riding at Pima & Dynamite. I understand there is a fair amount of sand in places, but the way people complain about it you would think there were dunes. I have a great time on trails 15 and 14. They do run into a bit of sand here and there but for the most part are pretty quick sections of single track. For a nice short ride lately I will ride north on the fire road which I believe is trail 1 up to trail 19 head west on 19 until it meets up with trail 20/22 then head south on trail 20/22 until you reach trail 14 which I will ride until it connects back with trail 1. I have done this in an hour, but I ride slow so others will probably fly through it much quicker. I started mountain biking at P&D so maybe I just have a soft spot for it.

I was out there a month-ish ago. Trails are fun, bmx-y rollers. If you head toward and past the big hills North and East you can stay away from some of the real sandy stuff on the more West (closer to Pima) trails. Keep an eye out for motorcycles - they have become somewhat a nusance and have added a kitty-litter feel to the trail where they are tearing up the granite. Seems like they most often stay on the South side of the trails (once you get past the fence to the North you dont see many.) Have fun!

Pima/Dynamite is my local stomping grounds so I'm out there at least once a week. Conditions tend to get a bit more sandy when it gets real hot and hasn't rained in a while (like now). However, there are still trails that are a lot of fun out there. Lots of swoopy, bermed, pump track type trails. And yes, lots of sand.

I go in at 118th off of Rio Verde and just about never get down to the Pima/Dynamite intersection. I realize that that is where most people access this slice of land, but it is the worst part of the entire area. The trails between and north of Granite Moutain and Cone mountain are the most fun. The trails east and just north of Granite mountain kind of suck - at least on a singlespeed. I try and stay off of #1 and #2 since they are borrrring.

Don't forget to bring a map, it is easy to get lost out there. Lots of trails.

I rode PD every Sunday for 16 years till BCT won me over. The trails east of Alma School and north of Browns ranch offer some very very flowing fast trail, you can connect all sorts of loops and such, the Dirt Bikes created the system so they need to be thanked instead of cursed. The further north and east from PD you go the higher the trail quality and the more compact (narrow) the singletrack is (also less loose decomposed granite). Wipeouts are costly here the DG will tear the s*&% out of you. Also some of the regulars out there are great folks. Now I'm missing it, I think I'll hit it Sunday!
