Bike - 150/140 coiled HT2 clone. Single speed.
Rider - size 11 (Nike) foot, wearing ‘barefoot’ hiking shoes, which have a low stack, flexible sole, normal dirt oriented tread pattern.
Pedal - Outlier Pendulum Raw.
Foot position - mid foot (spindle lines up center of foot. Pedal pins span from just behind ball to near heel start)
Ride - About 45 minutes of loamy to wet PNW xc. Then my kid broke their chain and I loaned them my bike so they could finish the team ride.

Getting on/ staying on details - the free spinning pedal was easier to locate and more likely to be pins up. There is a lot of on and off with the team as it takes only one to not clear a root and the line holds up. on a normal ride getting on off isn’t as common. It was pretty easy to start putting the foot in the correct place after only a couple mounts. Repositioning was normal. Grip seemed good, not sure if it was extra good. Ride was not fast or challenging so hard to draw a conclusion on overall grip. No flow or fast bermed corners on this day.

I did not reposition my saddle or change dropper height.

I did get some foot strikes. This bike already has a low bottom bracket and I was already on 155s and pedal striking pretty regularly. However I didn’t foot strike much, like once a year. I’ll be putting on 150s. Foot striking is no bueno.

pedal felt pleasant. Comfortable. Seemed transparent. That means I wasn’t thinking about it and it wasn’t drawing attention, except for the foot strikes.

How tall are you and what's your inseam? Just curious as 155's are already kind of getting to the far side of the bell curve.

My riding shod inseam is like 32”. Lots of opinions out there on femur length, hip angle, cadence targets. I’ve been riding a long time, from back in the mid 80s when I spent my lifetime 14 year old savings on a blue Shogun 12 speed. A lot of different bikes and standards and ‘best setup and fit’ advice under the bridge since then. At this point I don’t mind short cranks. They don’t hurt me physically (no ache or pain) and I’m not in a race. Frankly I’m no better on longer cranks. I don’t have a strava account, and get out of breath looking at an uphill. It’s all for fun at this point.

the bike I’ve got has a very low BB. Getting these pedals for this bike maybe was a hare brained idea.. still excited to get them on some flow and see.

I think outlier sent them out

"Cameron Belisle O'Donnell sent me a list of updates the next batch of pedals will get, based on what they have learned from the first batch. Here they are in his words.

We’re moving to custom sealed, oil-filled, angular contact bearings in both Voids and Pendulums that should offer better protection against the elements, have very little stiction and offer a more consistent result. "

I'd like to try these, too bad they don't have a demo program.

I'm running 152mm cranks, with these I could try 140mm (y)
