I have read the few guys who said they had knocking noise in evil offering thread. They all seem to have resolved issue by replacement deluxe shock. i had a medium offering that was dead silent while running dpx2 and a x2 , decided to get a large and bought it new frame only and put exact build on new offering and i have that knocking in low to mid speed chatter. I kept my x2 from old offering and knocking is present on x2 and dpx2 that came with new frame so i doubt its the rear shock. Feels like what someone said in other thread like the shock hardware is worn/loose but frame is brand new. I kinda think its in trunnion area and tolerances are off a tad on bolts or washer thingys and causing play. When i snug up trunnion shock bolts if feels different than my last offering and calling. Its almost like bolt tightens quicker than normal. BTW, those spacers between shock/trunnion are installed properly with flat side against shock. This is my 6th evil and have never had this annoying issue and are very familiar with evils corks over years. I did have this exact knocking noise on my 17 rocky mountain slayer which had a bearing system shock mount, never solved issue and moved on. Any help would be appreciated! Please help im losing my mind!
Going to try calling evil on monday.
thanks!

So, I've had a lot of experience of noise on my evil. Here's some of what I've done.

Grease up the lower shock bolt loads. And torque to spec (9nm).

Have you got anything on the chain stay to protect it from the chain slap? If not, some door draft excluder foam will help. Try putting some on the seatstay too, where the chain slaps higher.

What rotors are you running? I found the Shimano ice-tec rotors would knock against the pads and make an awful knocking noise.

You could try wrapping the rear cable outer in some electrical tape, inside the swing arm, as that can knock a bit.

The cable outer than runs along the top tube can knock against the frame, some strategically place rubber can stop this.

Are you using a wireless dropper?

In addition to all of that - on the dropper - certain setups will yield a knocking sound within the seat tube. Hard to say how to fix it - it's a tricky area down there.

I have recently purchased an offering w/ dpx2 x01 drivetrain that has the same noise that is mentioned on the thread and seems to be the topic here.

Just wanted to share my findings and the long short of the story below is that the noise is chain slap! I figured this out after reading on the inter webs and doing some testing with different shocks and ways to silence chain slap.

So, when I first took out the bike after it was built by the local lbs I noticed the bike had a knocking noise on light to medium chatter (braking bumps). It was enough to make me stop ridding and look at the bike as if something was loose. Best way to describe it would be a woodpecker hitting a carbon tree! I couldn’t see anything wrong trail side so continued to ride. Got home and went through the bike couldn’t find a loose bolt or a spot lacking grease that should be lubed. Found the shock was having issues with the negative chamber which was resolved. Rode again, and the noise still existed. So, lbs decided we could send the shock in and I was given a super deluxe loaner off a demo bike that had been in the fleet. Went out and rode. Noise was still there so we knew it was not the shock and I knew nothing was loose cause at this point the bike had been gone through several times by several different people. This was a sound I could not replicate anywhere but the trail.

After quite a bit of reading on the inter webs I found a thread about an insurgent suggesting chain slap being the issue. So I added some protection (sugru and Velcro) to test the theory and found the noise to decrease by at least 50%. So. I took off the chain and derailleur and hit a section that was pretty easy to get it talking on and found zero noise with it off.

I was pretty surprised to find this was the issue as I figured there would be more complaints of how loud it was! I truly thought something was wrong with the bike. Heck, so did the lbs. I ran into another offering owner who said he was on his 3rd evil and never had an issue with this. I also test rode a following mb before deciding on an offering that I don’t recall noticing the noise on.

At this point the protection added has made a slight difference and after putting on a dozen or so more rides I have become less sensitive to the noise now that I know nothing is breaking. The bike has the Dpx2 back on it and it is riding amazing! Best ride I have owned for sure. The other reason I’m confident chain slap was the cause of noise is because the bike always rode well. Just sounded clunky. But never could feel that clunk in the way it rode or in the pedals.

I still however would like it to go away so I purchased the trail version of the stfu bike system and will give it a go. It may not look the best but if it works I’m sold!

So, that said anyone else notice similar? Thoughts or suggestions?

Get yourself some stormguard draught excluder tape.

The chainslap is well documented. This is a 100% fix.

A much nearer solution is to get some Sugru, and mould some teeth into the chainstay.

I did a combo of the sugru and Velcro that certainly did make a difference but did not eliminate it. I also purchased some of the mentioned seals in a few variations to try out but they don’t last for more than a few rides.

Looking forward to the stfu bike kit to show up and try that out. I’ll certainly report back when it shows up and I test it out for a bit.

Not trying to say this is everyone’s issue but it was mine and if your bike is making a similar noise then you should try some protection there to see if that’s it.

Grease up the main pivot and your golden. Took me 3 years to find out 🤪

I just quietened my Offering with some silicon lube on the shock - between the coil and the flat plates on each end (don't know what they are called) on my Push - under compression they were making noise - were likely dry and dirty... Wish I'd tried that a few months ago before waiting until I had time to undo, clean and lube all the suspension bolts.....doh.
