Without having to read 86 pages of baffling compound descriptions and abbreviated tread names, please could someone tell me in as few words as possible, what combo I should get for the following conditions:

  • Enduro riding, with the odd uplift day
  • I value grip way more than rolling resistance
  • Terrain is often wet, very rough rock, roots and loam. It's the UK, we rarely have dry days

I flip between Wild Enduros in Magi-X for the majority of my riding, then DH casing Magic Mary for big trips and uplift
I would run Argotal DH Supersoft front, Kryptotal R DH Soft rear. You could also consider Argotal DH soft rear if you’re wanting the bust mud performance.

Argotal DH SS

And yeah you could also consider Super Soft in the rear for both of those depending on how sloppy your trails are. Seems like the Conti’s wear pretty well compared to Maxxgrip. I’d just skip straight over the enduro casing.

Ive been trying to test the Argotal Dh SS the last few days but too much rain to have an answer, on a few slick and greasy trails they felt good and our trails are usually extremely slick when wet. However on the pavement climbs they definitely have less rolling resistance than the Assegai and MM which im a fan of.

that’s what I’d say based on my expierence with the xynatol trail endurance… in the dry I couldn’t tell a difference. Once it gets moist on firm surfaces, it’s not as grippy as maxterra.
This is what I was searching for...the consensus on hardness of the endurance compound. To the touch it feels nearly as soft and pliable as MaxTerra...really close. I ordered a Krf Endurance, on sale for $40 over Blackfriday, and figured I'd try it on the rear for dry park days, paired up with a sticky front tire. Since ordering, I've actually notices a lot of guys running the KRF in the rear, so hopefully it works out.

Can anyone comment on the casing volume/size of a 2.4 Xynotal compared to a 2.4 dhr?

Looking at the tire still in the retail roll/packaging, the width of the side knobs look (and measure) very narrow. I was hoping it would be a somewhat suitable replacement for a 2.5 Aggressor but have my doubts.

Is it just a narrow footprint, or is the casing substantially lower volume as well?

I've been running a set of Kryptotal F/R in trail for about 6 months and I love them. Also for 6 months I have been looking for a set of soft rear, super soft front 29 2.4 for my enduro/park wheelset and I can't find any. How does Conti expect to make money if they don't have any product for us to buy?

Xynotal 2.4 enduro soft on left, DHR2 2.4 EXO+ max terra on right.

I'd say Xynotal casing volume is larger but knobs are shorter than DHR2.

DHR2 brakes better but rolls slower than Xynotal. They corner about the same. DHR2 is better in mud and better on steep off camber, but Xynotal isn't bad, just DHR2 is better because of taller knobs.

I personally would go with Xynotal over Aggressor on the rear 100% of the time, but if you are on steep off camber trails then DHR2 has taller side knobs but rolls slower and in my experience is less durable.

I can find everything in the Trail casing, and some KRe and Xynotal in soft and super soft but I haven't found anything anywhere in the US in the KFr 29 2.4 except Trail. Ideally I want a KFr in soft Enduro and KRe in DH soft. I guess they will eventually get stock over here.

I would go for the DH SS front 100% of the time. It is a great tire and the slight weight penalty is worth the compound upgrade and super dampened casing. I am actually running a DD SS on the front Enduro Soft rear on my enduro bike.

This set of wheels would be for the park, so ideally I would get DH SS front and SH S rear, but at this point I will take anything not Trail/Endurance.

Have a few rides in on the Argotal DH SS so far, its been slightly wet but got some good dirt yesterday on it. It feels really solid on wet rocks, roots, ruts, and rolls extremely good for a more spikey tire. It has more surface area than a Shorty or Hillbilly so definitely more of an all rounder if you hit looser dirt only part of the time.
I ride Tahoe DG mostly in summer, loam in shoulder seasons and then our local hardpack trails are greasy in the winter so I'm going to keep it on as it feels like the best compromise so far. I really don't get on with the KRF in Loam and DG. Argotal rolls faster and has a better casing than the Magic Mary which is the only other tire I'm considering full time.

If I am looking to replace a XR4 2.6 up front, which would be closer 2.6 option the Kryptal RE or Argotal? This would be for hardpack & loose over hard & would be looking at the trail+endurance or soft compound.

None of these tires are similar to the XR4. Xynotal is probably the closest
