That was quick!

HB been on my list for a while just haven't gotten a chance to research sizing etc. The lower price is nice but I have a few questions.

1. Why the different head angle?

2. Does it have that nice supple ride feel of the original?

3. Steve at HP was a little critical of the paint in some of the reviews. I wonder if the paint is higher quality on the Core version?

For what its worth I'm running a 130 pike on my MUSA hummingbird which slackened it out to the same geometry as the new Core...I frickin love it, ride it on everything and don't think the .5degree slacker has much if any perceptible difference in ride characteristic, I just wanted a chunkier fork for my weight. I believe steve says in the new review he wouldn't be able to tell a core from a MUSA if he was blindfolded, based on ride feel alone. The powder coat on my bike is immaculate.

Good feedback, thanks.

I've been on a Nimble 9 at 140mm for 5 years which is more than enough for my local trails. I liked the idea of the HB geo since it's probably more appropriate for my local trails and would be even sportier. Sometimes I'm afraid of going to 120mm so it's nice to know I can go 130mm if I need to.

I did like the thought of a (albeit slight) steeper head angle to sharpen things up a tad without being to XC as I ride SS and like to ride standing up a lot and manual and pop off as much as I can.

Anyone else thinking about the clearance in the rear triangle between the tire and the seat tube? Not sure if the wheel is slammed forward in the sliders, but looking at the few pictures of the HB Core, there seems to be very little clearance.

Do you mean the brace on the chainstays?

I do like how the US version looks without one...

2. Steve mentioned it did in his review. I think he said 98%. I know ride feel was a huge focus (like it always is) from Nick and Daniel. The tube spec was driven by them per frame size, not by the manufacturer.

3. The US made frames are powder-coated these are painted. Completely different processes. There has been a lot of work done to improve the US made finish from what Steve originally reviewed.

The tire and the seat tube (right behind the water bottle ). That space looks pretty narrow.
2.6 is the stated clearance. Nick / Daniel shoot for 6mm of clearance from tire to frame when designing frames. You should not have any issues if you choose to run a 2.6. The frame was designed for it.

Don't be afraid of 120mm. It suits hardtails really well.

The powder coat on my (circa 2022) MUSA Hummingbird has been extremely durable. The only visible wear issue has been from a storage bag that I positioned in a way that it rubbed off a few spots of paint on the seat tube over time (that was my bad). There is also some non-visible roughness to the touch on the bottom of the downtube from rock strikes.

I'd guess that with the sliders slammed all the way forward (such as Steve has it) the designers would like the tire to be as close to the seat tube as is acceptable, in order to minimize chain stay length in the minimum chain stay setting.

Oh yeah!! I ride a pretty low gear SS setup in mine and am standing A LOT on chunky steep little shits of climbs...66 degrees you can still totally work the handlebars and dictate precise line changes at critically slow SS grind speeds!!

The stated / designed clearance for the HB regardless of the model is 2.6. The bike is not designed to work with 27.5 x 2.8, and most likely will not. You will end up rubbing the frame if you are mounting a true 2.8 tire.
