Thinking of replacing my front Forekaster 29 2.4 with a DHR 2.3, I run a Rekon 2.4 in the rear. Looking for a touch more bite and grip in Southern Cal rocky dusty trails, I liked the DHR 2.4 as a front but the 2.3 comes in at claimed 950g… This is going on my lightweight Specialized Stumpjumper, so it’s more of a downcountry vibe with an emphasis on climbing and pedaling all day. Not a lot of info or reviews on the DHR 2.3 version, anyone using as a front or even as rear? Thanks

Rekon 2.4 Maxterra rear / DHRII 2.3 Maxterra front is a sleeper combo for a certain type of light trail bike... Rocky Mountain PM on the Element thread recommended that exact combo for his local riding conditions/terrain. (Obviously different from Socal loose-over-hard, but still a solid source for setup knowledge.) Probably ideal with 26-27 internal rims as Norcal said up-thread. You could also do a High Roller II (older tread pattern) in 2.3 if you like that slightly sharper/more open lug pattern.

For the type of bike you're describing I'm partial to something like a Ground Control Grid T7 2.3 or Wicked Will Addix Speed / Super Trail rear, and an Eliminator/Purgatory Grid T9 2.3 or Nobby Nic Addix Soft/Super Ground up front. Similar weights/rolling resistances to the Maxxis setup we're talking about, but with more traction over roots/rocks, especially when wet, IMO. I also don't have great luck with the Rekon maxterra on the rear in terms of wear life.
