Ok...so I have a few days before the Tilt shows up and am only missing a fork for my build. Finally found the one I want and it's 51mm offset. I just ride my bike and pay little attention to all of the finer details of geometry and such. I know what I like, but couldn't tell you why other than I ride it and it feels good. What affect would putting a 51mm offset fork on my Tilt have in the handling? Read extremely varying degrees of opinions out there. I understand "trail" and I understand the affect in terms of what it it does on paper, but what might be the real life, riding the bike, affect be? More front end flop? Wandering front wheel? Thx for the feedback. Cheers!

More responsive to turning and less responsive to straight line stability. I'm assuming it's a 29er. Most were spec'd with 51mm in the past, some still are such as Nuke Proof Reactor. With longer and slacker bikes being produced the 44mm offset is the new norm. Some say they can tell the difference, and I think they can if they are familiar with their ride. I have a 51mm on both my bikes and the FS does feel twitchy the first few hundred yards, but then that is what I was going for, more responsive and less self straightening.

I'm probably running a 40mm. I have a 32mm on my Balance but I'm planning on bumping up to a 40 I believe. For some reason I haven't been a fan of 50mm and longer stems for a few years. Got to used to super short ones.

Truthfully, you won’t notice the difference.

But, when you go to sell the bike or fork, it’ll be harder to sell because people believe it makes a difference.

I’m sure the fork is a good deal, but yeah, I’d skip the 51mm offset fork and get a 42-46mm, which is the current “trend”.

Kinda the reason I asked the question in the 1st place....I've had both but never felt like I noticed the difference and honestly, my last bike was a 44 and I didn't even know until I looked it up....didn't realize any difference over the previous which was a 51. You're probably right though not to buck the trend otherwise I'll have to relegate the fork to the land of misfit toys eventually

I've had a 51 (DVO Diamond), a 44 (Fox 36) and a 42 (Rockshox Lyrik) on a Transition Sentinel. I cannot tell much of a difference between the Fox 36 and the Lyrik, but the shorter offset forks were definitely more stable at higher speeds.

At slower speeds, I could not discern any differences. In theory, the 51 should have been better at navigating slow speeds on tight trails, etc., but it felt the same as the shorter offset forks. Nor have I experienced more wheel flop on climbs with the 51.

Ultimately, I am sticking with the Fox with a 44 offset as the Lyrik feels a little "divey," but that's a discussion for another thread. The Diamond has been sold. I am keeping the Lyrik as backup. That's my $.02 worth based on personal experiences. Hope this along with Hardtail Party's Youtube video helps.

Thx it all does. I wanted various opinions to offset my current opinion. Was gonna just buy it but figured I'd take a step back and throw it out there for feedback
