HSCV carts?

After riding northstar last weekend, im really getting sick of the SSV dampening in my 01 Jr. T. It feels really alkward riding w/ a nice smooth romic in the back and then having ur wrists getting pounded by the forks crappy dampening. I want to get some HSCV carts for my Jr. T but im wondering first, how could i get them and second is it really worth it? (should i just get a new fork). The only reason im sticking to this fork is b/c its got 6" of travel and on an old school bullit thats the max u can put on it, but i also have a 9.5 eye to eye romic in the back which probabally steepens up the head tube a little, would it be okay to go for a 7" fork? If so i had these in mind:

1) 170mm 04 888r (probabally with flat crowns)
2) 03 super T (probabally a better fit)

anyways any advice would be greatly appreciated Thx

BTW heres a pic of my bike (its got different wheel set now)

Being that you already boosted the rear, either fork you mentioned will work there. I know that SC only authorized 6" of travel on the front of these older models (I have a '99), but unless you're solid death on your frames with your riding style, the older 6" Bullits stand up quite well. I wouldn't be a bit scared of that setup. Your geometry should actually be a little better, I'd think, with a 7" (or so) fork like the two you mentioned. You're pushing about 7.8" of rear travel there, aren't you, with a 3" stroke?

Yeah i got a 3.0" stroke in the back. If i were to get the HSCV carts for my current fork, how would i get them? Cuz its 30mm Stancions and only 6" of travel, i would have to find an 01 super to get those. I think i should just go w/ a new fork....

Just wondering, what are the differences between the 04 888r and an 03 Super T, other than the Stancions i think they both have dual HSCV carts...

Thx

The 03 super t cannot adjust compression and you can't lower the fork because of the cryofit lower crown.

The 888r has both compression and rebound adjustments, you can also get the compression sleeve upgrade which will make the fork even more plush at slower speeds.

Yeah, you can get just about anything from Marz if it comes in a production fork. I've bought 5 different carts for different applications from them...springs, caps, o-rings, etc...they are good to deal with. I'm not aware of any 6" dual crown length HSCV carts to go into your fork. Seems like they went straight from 5" to 6.7" in the dual crown models with HSCV. It thought the Mr.T had a model with 6" and HSCV, but I'm not finding it right now.

I got HSCV carts in my 04 DOT. Went from a sloppy on hit wonder fork, to a smoother, more DH friendly fork.

I got a quote from University Bicycles in Boulder CO for a single replacement HSCV cart for my Z150 ($200) and some 170mm carts (R & C) for some 04 888s ($250).

They got the prices from Marzocchi USA.

Buy new forks, the 888s are considerably stiffer and stronger than the 03 super Ts.

BTW, where can you still pick up 2004 888s?

Good luck, JT

OUCH, man. I can personally guarantee that full pop retail on a Z150 HSCV cart is $120 at the highest mark up. Most shops would sell it for a little less. I bought two of those this year for a Z150 SL conversion at my shop wholesale, so I know what they cost. There's either an accidental misquote going on there or a "bendover" deal.

Hi TNC,

Thanks for your reply. How much would a HSCV cart for a 2004 Super T be?

If you work in a shop, can you get them in?

Thanks,

JT

I have some '05 Jr. Ts that I just bought an HSCV cartridge for. I'm not sure what year model cartridge you would need for your '01 Jr. T, but mine took a 2003 Super T HSCV cartridge and cost $150 which included installation. This was steep but I like the peeps at my LBS. I've seen it advertised for $110 somewhere. Any authorized Marzocchi dealer (a lot of LBS are) should be able to order it for you, but Marzocchi doesn't have this mod listed in their normal parts catalog = your LBS should order directly from Marzocchi tech over the phone to be sure they get you the right carts (unless the've done this before). Go to Marzocchi.com to find an authorized dealer near you or call them direct. I hear they are great to work with. The install on mine needed a thin walled 12mm socket that had to be special ordered from snap-on. Just a heads up.

You can get 2004 Super-Ts for $500

pricepoint.com has 2004 Super-Ts for $500. I just got one. They are new in the box, not take-offs or anything. Only issue with them is tire clearance. I have an Panaracer Fire-FR 2.4 on it and it pretty much fills the brake arch. But the Fire-FR 2.4s are really WIDE tires for their rated size.

Sweet fork. I had a 2002 Jr-T and the difference is quite noticable, though the 2004 Super-T only has HSCV in the right leg.

The 20mm axle clamp system is a bit kludgy, but you get used to it.

Comes with the integrated stem.
