How to tell how many speeds a SRAM X9 derailleur is?

I bought a used SRAM X9 derailleur and can't tell if it's a 9x or 10x. Is there any way to figure it out?

9 and 10 are exact actuation and therefore compatible. Just change the shifter.

Here is the proof: X9 Rear Derailleur - RD-X9-A1 - SRAM - Service
There's a well known article from an Art's cyclery blog that claims 1:1 is very different from exact actuation (1.1 vs 1.3 pull ratio). Looks like Art's may have it wrong. Anyone physically tested both 9 and 10 speed derailleurs and can save me the hassle of doing it?

Presumably they got that from here
