How do you store your bike?

I have a carport, not a garage, and am wondering if keeping my bike in my carport will lead to rusting, etc. How do you all store your bikes? I do not have a whole lot of space inside my house, so that is why I keep it in my carport. I live in Western North Carolina so it is not like I live near a beach and have salt spray in the air. We do get a fair amount of rain though, one storm a day this time of year. What do you all think, am I good keeping my bike outside in the carport or should I find a place inside?

I would be worried about theft leaving a nice bike outside....
I guess it depends on the area though.

I keep mine inside...sitting near the dining room lol :)

I remember someone saying they took the front wheel off, turn the handlebars & slide it under the bed....I think it was in a dorm room or something....might be an option but you'd have to keep the bike pretty clean.

Sometimes on the carport but most of the time locked in my shed/workshop. Protected from the elements, prying eyes, and sticky fingers. Also by locking it up I should have less trouble from my insurance company if someone actually did break into the locked shed and stole it.

I keep the bike chained up in my carport. I was more concerned with rust than theft, but theft is always a possibility. It sounds like I need to find a spot inside for the bike...
Keep it somewhere lockable, chains don't last long against someone with big arms and a set of bolt croppers, even the good ones.

Also, anything that isn't bolted on is vulnerable, I used to live in flats with a bike store in the bottom. You needed a key to get in but that didn't stop some enterprising feckers just smashing the door in with a sledge and then taking anything they could that wasn't chained down. They got away with a few hundred quids worth of wheels, seatposts/saddles and the like. People are bastards.

I keep mine in the basement, which happens to have a door to ground level.

The humidity in North Carolina can be damaging to your bike over time. A bike mechanic told me to always keep your bike inside. I asked him if covering it would help and he said no. I continued to carry it up the stairs to my apartment everyday.

One of my bikes is in my bed room cause I am working on something and the other is in the garage. They normally are always stored inside.

I let a cruiser go and left outside. I did not have any room for. It was never the same. Not going to do that again.

i keep all 3 bikes in my house, even though i have plenty of room in the garage. i've had a bike stolen from the garage (my fault because i left it open), so i don't leave them there anymore, even though i always shut it now.

my house isn't big and the bikes are definitely seen out of place by visitors, but it's not crowded so i don't see any issue. i just make sure to clean them before bringing them inside. :D

I keep mine inside the house,..had to fight the wife on that one. I did see somewhere on the net that a guy pulled his bed away from the corner of the wall, and placed his bike there. I'd roll over and stare at that instead of my wife,..at least I'd get a good ride from my GIANT MTB

The moisture alone would be enough for me to bring it inside.

I am single and rent a one bdrm apartment so the bike goes in my foyer and kayak in the bedroom....oh and the beermeister in the living room :D
And you're single?! I kid I kid.

Yeah I keep mine in the house, tucked in an out-of the-way corner. I rent, so I put down some old towels so I don't ruin the floors.

Mine stays in the bed of my truck, locked under the cap. I've got nice dark tint on the windows and the door locks, so I figure it's a safe place.

I'm too lazy to clean more than the drivetrain/moving parts after a ride, and I know my truck bed doesn't mind the frame grime like the housemates probably would. :p
