Galfer Shark Rotors

Hi all, just wanted to share my thoughts on the new Galfer shark rotors that I've just started running.

I was previously running the original Galfer wave rotors (203mm rear, 223mm front) with Galfer pro pads and thought they were the best of the best. But having now bolted on the equivalent sized Shark rotors and I have to say the difference in sheer braking power is insane. I haven't fully bedded in the rotor yet (probably around 50% bedded in) and the power is now surpassing the wave rotors I had previously. Honestly, these upgraded steel discs are no joke and little wonder why they attract a pretty penny!

Has anyone else tried them and found the same?

Color me interested. I’ve been having overheating issues with my SRAM Centerline 223 up front (Saints with MTX red or gold pads). With the Shimano finned pads, I get by — but those are crazy expensive these days!

Anything to run cooler with more power…I’d happily pay $80 for a rotor that doesn’t overheat.

I'll still keep the wave rotors for the winter. I do feel that they will shed mud better than the sharks. But for everything else the sharks win hands down. Yet to try the sharks in muddy conditions and won't be for another 8 months at least 😂

Is it accurate that shark rotors are lighter than waves at the same diameter? I’m seeing the 180mm 1.8 th wave listed as 147gr and the shark 180mm 2.0 th as 120gr. Thicker and lighter at the same time? If true, that’s impressive.

shark 180 2mm is 140grams not 120 grams according to Galfer

the spider is different between wave and shark they
possibly get weight savings in the spider

weird that Galfer USA says 140 on some pages for 6 bolt
and other places in Galfer own web site say 127 for 6 bolt

yes getting the weight correct before purchase is tricky

I just weighed a 180mm Shark and it came in at 122g.
Good enough for me! What about performance, are they noticeably better than the waves? I’m starting to notice a few dh bikes running dominions A4 paired with galfer sharks.

Galfer rotors seem like a really nice headset cap to me. I'm not sure why you'd buy them over anything else.

There are a couple of reasons:
1) good value for money. If the performance is great and they’re moderately priced I’m interested
2) It’s cool to support a product that’s designed and manufactured 50km away.

bonus: thicker rotor and lighter, can’t see anything wrong with that

The Shark rotor is premium.

Have a 223mm on the front. It and the 200mm HS2 Sram rotor on the rear has significantly increased the power of my Code RSC brakes on the Levo.

Makes the centerlines I had previously and the Shimano rotors I have on the Stumpy look like soda can cut-outs.

That being said, the XTR race 2 pot brakes with 180 f&r on the MTB are perfectly adequate cause it's a light and wimpy trail bike.

And I have TRP 223 2.3mm rotor, not sure what the galfer would do better, both are made of steel. Why pay more for the galfer?

Like I said, I don't understand the hype of Galfer rotors when there are other options, arguably better, available.
