Figured I would post up a picture of my new toy. Found it over in the classifieds on this site and couldn't be happier. its a Reba SL with the U-turn adjustable travel. still have to tune it for my weight and get it out on a ride, tomorrow I'm dropping it off at a shop to have the avid juicy 5's installed and tweaked. the funny part is when I was installing the fork, I had the steel rigid fork and the reba in my hands, and I could not tell any difference in weight

after (the steer tube on the reba was a little shorter than the stock setup so I had to remove some of the spacers, we'll see how that effects handling if at all. if I crank up the travel on the fork the front of the bike goes up about an inch :D

and the top of the fork, notice the twist knob for travel adjustment on the left :p

that's all for now.

very cool........ why did you take the ridged fork off?
my right wrist is starting to bother me (have to get it checked out) and I always enjoyed having a front fork to smooth things out a bit. the fork should take the edge off, and has a lockout if I want to play in rigid mode.

if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for the reba

Rigid is okay at first, then you start pushing it faster and the bashes just wreck your arms I got so beaten up I could barely ride the FS for a month, it's fun though, back to training rides on my own though :(

Interesting post for me...I have the same bike, and have ridden with the seller of that fork. I can assure you it was well taken care of. No kidding about the weight of the stock fork. When I read your title, the first thing that came to mind was :I hope you changed the fork." Let us know how it handles with the Reba.

Hey...I can't tell by the picture but is that a lay back seat post? It kind of looks like it is. If so what brand is it?

I liked the Peace a lot...was thinking about getting it seriously until I found a great price on an SE Stout and got that instead....

LBIKid - I will keep you posted on the ride :) I've been a huge fan of this bike, and I'm so happy to be back on a steel hardtail. I think the next step will be to get a set of easton XC two wheels, to drop a little weight off the bike.

NeedsA29er - that is the stock easton seat post, it is slightly offset but probably not considered a "lay back" post.

well, took the bike out for a light shake down run today. got the avid juicy 5s installed and tweaked (those feel a bit sluggish but I hear that will clear up). the fork however feels amazing. hands down the best fork I have ever ridden. I have it set as advised by another member here and its great, nice and plush, smoothes out the choppy stuff and I couldn't be happier. at the lowest travel setting the bike seems to handle just as before but more squish, lockout is great too. with the travel extended there is a def. difference in handling, feels more layed back, but I'm sure that has its advantages in certain situations. can't wait to go out and ride more. more pictures later I'm sure :)

Be warned the standard Juicy pads are useless, thankfully they won't last long, but mine where glazing over and barely stopping me at all, some good sintered pads will sort them in a instant.

Check the downtube top cap clearance. Had a fork on my 2008 Peace9r. The top caps where rubbing slightly the downtube. Am going to get a Cane Creek S3 Plus 5 to deal with it.

Plus will be trying a larger front rotor on it as well.

so no problem with clearance on the frame? looks a little close in the photo

also - any difference in handling since you are slightly higher now?
with the travel at 80mm the handling seems to be the same, front end is just about the same as it was before. If I crank up the travel it raises the front end about an inch and there is a bit of a difference in the ride, but I haven't really explored that setting much yet. the crown on the fork does come in contact with the down tube, but I don't turn that far under normal riding conditions so I'm not too worried about it at the moment.

The Cane Creek S3 Plus 5 will help with that.

The Peace's rigid fork REALLY beats up your wrists, especially on high-speed stutter bumps. I ran mine with as many passive suspension aids as I could (Carbon bar and post, cork grips) but replaced it with a Salsa Dos Niner with Reba Race 100mm. I still have the peace but its now a designated "loaner" bike in my collection.

great upgrade with the fork...i can't wait to get my rigid fork replaced with a reba or minute, sadly fox is out of my budget range. i am still having fun riding rigid though.

bike looks good!

Have you considers converting to drop bars? i often ride out on the extra long bar ends on my old my mt bike. i've ridden my cross bike on some trails and like the drops bars for off road.

Haven't considered drop bars, never really liked that riding position, and I just picked up some even better brakes that I doubt I could use with drop bars :p I found some older shimano XT 755 disc brakes (the 4pot calipers) for $125 shipped  if anyone wants some avid juicy 5's let me know :p
