Evil calling

I have owned a lot of longer travel bikes in the past couple years but always felt that my calling was just as capable and now that Evil doesn’t make it anymore is there another bike in the market that anybody feels compares? I want to get a second bike that is short travel but just as aggressive and can do anything like the calling but I don’t see anything on the market that makes me think it will be as good.

Everyone that sells a Calling… seems to regret it. I’m actually too tall for my XL Calling. But it’s such a ‘fun’ bike that I can’t bring myself to part ways with it. Eventually I need to find a ‘fun’ bike that fits better to replace it. I’m doing most of my rides on a XXL Tallboy these days. Pulled the Calling out for a ride last night though, thing always turns heads [emoji28] I’m going to use all weekend chasing our team around at our High School MTB races. [emoji869]

Reason why the Calling feels more lively is that it has a relatively short wheelbase with short chainstays. Bikes now are so long that it takes more effort to lift the bike off the ground.

I've been keeping my eye out for a used Calling frame...I don't see them come around too often.
What size are you looking for? There's a bunch on pinkbike... could always ask if they'll sell just a frame.

Same here, my Calling is just too good. Don’t see anything out there that I’d rather have at the moment. Mine is setup 150mm smashpot coil up front, 11-6 in rear, XLOW. I just had shoulder surgery so using the recovery time to modify her a little. Sending the 11-6 off for long stroke service and ordered a 1.5” angleset with intention of flipping back to LOW BB with effectively same HA (maybe 0.5 deg slacker). Hoping for similar ride characteristics with less pedal strikes and slightly better climbing position.

V3 Following owner here. Finding myself somewhat 27.5 curious and really like the feel/ride of Evil bikes. Naturally the Calling would be my choice, but seeing as it’s a discontinued model pickings are slim to none.

Any other similar era or current 27.5 bikes that have a similar personality to the Calling? My shortlist includes the 5010 (2020+), SB140, Tramsition Scout, and Ibis Mojo 4. Admittedly I haven’t ridden any of these so I’m clueless to how any of them compare.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Yes I'd go XL. It's the same issue I had when I bought a used Following MB. To get the reach I wanted I needed to size up. Apparently Evil agreed with this because the XL Following MB geo is the same as the Large Following v3. If you want a Calling and normally ride an L you should get the XL.
