They're cheap for sure. I got some aluminum ODI end plugs, and like it that way.

If you move the grips to the edge of the bar, you don't even need end plugs.

Oh and the newer ones in the "earth friendly" packaging instead of the "OMG they used a lot of plastic" packaging have better end plugs.

 

Why is it that with a $30 set of grips you don't get an end plug that goes in smoothly? ...and stays in.

Because handlebars come in many different thicknesses. A DH specific bar is made of thicker material than and a lightweight carbon XC bar. If the plugs do not push in with your hand, simply trim square edges off the plug with a knife or scissors....should take less than a few minutes.

Too late. The square edges (and the rest of the ribs) are lying on my garage floor...they all crumbled right off when I tried to tap them in with a rubber mallet.

Perhaps the 287 characters above should be in the instruction booklet. If it is and I overlooked it, I apologize. I do not mean to bash.

I pretty much had the same problems. Thought I just didn't know what I was doing, and that still can be.

 

Exact thing happened to me except my grips cost $40 and I thought I was a klutz. 50 cent endplugs now.

 

I replaced mine with the aftermarket plugs I already had on the bike. LMK if you want to try again with some fresh unused Ergon plugs.

 

I have 3 sets of Ergons and still using the original plugs. Anything in the whole to keep dirt out if you lay it down. A friend uses tequila bottle corks.

 

I dropped coin on some GX-1s with the mag bar end. My plugs didn't have any issues.....same old cheap plastic ones.
