Dropper Seatpost Slipping – This Fixable?

I got at Brand X Ascend dropper seatpost. Worked great for about a year. Then on my last ride the dropper started slipping – it would drop without me pressing the lever.

Just sitting on the seatpost it drops. And it drops pretty quickly. Under my body weight it drops fully in about 100 yards.

Chain Reaction, who sold me the dropper, was quick to send a warranty replacement. They didn’t try to troubleshoot the old dropper.

I don’t like throwing out stuff if it’s fixable. So looking for opinions on whether the old dropper is salvageable or I should just toss it.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

It's official. I'm an idiot. This did the trick. I guess the barrel adjuster accidentally got bumped. I checked the dropper end of the cable but didn't think to check the trigger end.

Thank you!

Toss it. You've already got a free replacement on the way.

next time consider attempting a fix before asking for free replacements.
I didn't ask for a replacement and would have been happy to try any fix CRC suggested. I just reported that I was having an issue and they jumped straight to sending me a replacement. Nice work jumping to conclusions though.

Tear it down and check it out. If you can figure out how to fix it great. If you can't, keep any useful peices. Just because you got a free replacement doesn't mean you can't try. Don't understand the logic of that.

I hear they are similar you the pnw bachelor, if that's the case it's probably a bad cartridge. In which case you'd need a replacement cartridge. They most likely sent you a new unit as it's obviously a warranty issue and it doesn't force you to completely tear it down and replace it yourself which could be troublesome and more expensive as apposed to just sending you a new one and getting you back on the trails asap.
