Dropper post recommendation for my 10yo

I was lucky enough to grab a Nukeproof CUB SCOUT 26 Race when it popped up on Chain reaction, and I was wondering if anyone could help recommend a dropper post?

Thanks,

Looks like the Cub Scout takes a 27.2mm post and has a nice straight seat tube. I'm not sure what the maximum insertion depth is, or if there is any provision for an internal dropper. I'm currently awaiting delivery of a Brand-X Ascend Kids dropper post from CRC, but it is going to require me to cut an access port in my son's Vitus seat tube in order to fit it. The Brand-X stuff is hard to beat for the money, as it is manufactured by TranzX (just like PNW) and also comes with a lever.

When shopping, I first measured maximum insertion, as well as the distance from the top of the seat tube to the seat rail in my son's optimal pedaling position. You might want to do the same, to make sure you find a dropper that both fits in your frame and allows the seat to be in the position you need at full extension.

I put a PNW Rainier Gen3 125mm on my 8-yr old's Yama Jama 24. With the adjustable travel option I was able to drop it down to 95mm, which is perfect now and has lots of room to grow with him. The actuation is a bit firmer, and takes a little effort for him when he's not on the bike but he can manage it. It is totally fine while riding. The PNW droppers are arguably the best value for the money too. I've got them on both my FS (200mm Bachelor) and my hardtail (200mm Rainier Gen3), had one on my old FS (125mm Cascade external) that worked flawlessly for 2 years before I gave it to my brother (still works flawlessly too), and now this one on my kid's bike. Love them all.

I'd suggest adding the wolftooth light-action trigger too as it makes easy work for little hands.

Update: I got the Bike Yoke Divine SL Rascal post. It actually kind of a crappy design. It relies on the HOUSING to move instead of being cable actuated. Its a BS design that OneUp tried and quit after it created a host of issues in their V1. Most importantly it makes actuating the post REALLY hard for a kid and hurt his thumb every time. And thats even if its possible to actuate once I routed the cabling through the BB area, which is really tight with the BB sleeve etc. I'll be returning it ASAP and going with the KS Lev Integra, its so much nicer (big brother has one). Also the bike yoke when air'd down to like 185PSI, it was still too hard for his 55lbs to actuate without butt-slamming it a bit. Any lower than that and It was having issues returning...perhaps I could have found a perfect balance there but regardless the bunk housing-actuated design ruins it out of the box. I should be able to just barely fit in a 100mm integra travel post. Might have to shave down the seatpost 5mm or so but I don't think so. A lower-profile collar from Wolf-tooth should also buy me a few mm back as well.

I am pretty happy with the first gen Fox transfer on my main bike, never gave me any trouble over the years and still has little play.

Just installed a oneup V2 on my ht and boy does that one has play in it which is aggravated because its a longer post.
Riding it it it does not bother me and it works fine though but I am a bit worried that the play will get bigger.

Have a pnw cascade in the mail and looking forward to see how it works out.

All levers are wolftooth.

Update: I found a sweet KS Lev Integra (same as my older sons but newer version for 2020 with nice updates) for our 20" Spawn Yama Jama. It took some work and bike surgery as I had to yank the BB/cranks and route the housing through the shell which sucked. I put the cable through the housing and started from the headtube port and just yanked the cable through to get the housing to follow. It was too hard to route just the housing so the cable trick worked. After getting it all installed, you have to force the BB sleeve around the cable but it was just a quick pop and it was in. Housing wont move with the sleeve and BB installed, so you have to get it installed first. Pretty simple tho.

I'm always blown away how smooth these Integra posts are. My 55lb 6yro VERY easily actuates it with his own weight (no butt slam) and can also actuate it with just his hand (when off the bike). The beauty is that you can drop the PSI WAY low and the post still works so well. I went from 150PSI down to 82PSI and its buttery smooth and still comes back quick enough (not super slow but not super fast). Its a godsend. At first with the stock PSI, he could drop it but it wouldn't go all the way down at the end so less PSI made everything better. The Bike Yoke Devine post and my one up post all need at least 240PSI+ or they don't come back all the way and take more weight to drop. Can't say enough good things about the Lev Integra for kids. The plan is to just migrate it to his next bike (with a shim) so it'll get some use. (I'm not in love with the TrailCraft that I got here...its a bit big). Anyone know of a nice small seat?

I also have a OneUp v2 210mm that I LOVE. If the play gets bigger, you just swap out the pins that they provided. Note that there are little slashes on the sides of the pin to indicate the varying width differences. Pick the set that works best. Tolerances are so tricky with these things but Jon up there at OneUp really dialed in the ability to keep that post running well at that extreme length.

you find anything? Was looking for something similar for my son's transition ripcord 24" that doesnt have any internal routing. Pickings seem pretty slim. KS Lev C Carbon 65mm, expensive though, like $350 on ebay. TranzX says they make a 65mm externally routed one for 27.2mm and I figure could get a shim, but I cant actually find the 65mm one for sale anywhere - TranzX-inspring your ride

Both my kids have had the KSLev SI on there bikes. They worked great. Those are the internal route, but they have the same in an external.

Only thing we had to do was if the bike had been sitting for a bit with seat down. I had to "wake them up." I'd push the remote button and fast up and down a few times then they were back to perfect.

I'm going to experiment with a tranz-x kitsuma air (adjustable pressure) for my 7 yo's bike when he gets enough seatpost on his 24 inch bike. I think I can make a custom travel adjust shim to bring the 150mm travel to 80 or so. I would normal just buy something that is roughly right, but I had started to collect parts for a bike build for me before deciding to purchase complete, so I have one in the correct diameter for his frame.

Thanks for the heads up! I wish this had been released a little sooner. It might have saved me quite a bit of time modifying a frame to accommodate the Brand X kids post. The 150mm collar to rail dimension might be a little tall, depending on the specific bike and rider height though. Probably still a little too tall for my son who is probably around 120mm from collar to rail.
