See, that wasn't so hard. That is how you should advertise a product you are selling. The person that is buying your "whatever" is doing you a favor, so make it easy for them. I can pretty much tell you no one on this site will buy your bike because of trust issues. From reading you last post you don't sound like a completely horrible person but we can only get an idea of who you are buy the words and sentences you post in emails and forums, so make them count. Like royfokker said, be CAREFUL about what you put in future posts on this site as we all know who you are.

@all downing Craigslist:
You guys are right, it is a cesspoll. That douche even was mocking that "this isn't ebay". Since he is so childish, needing the final word, he made a last insulting post that he is "not some ebay power seller". This was not a bad experience by craigslist standards, alot of time I try to sell stuff and people no-show wasting alot more of my time. Or I give someone my phone # so they can pickup a cheap item, $10, and this lady phone jockey keeps calling me to tell why she can't show up, what she had to do as excuses, what she is doing and when she thinks she can come, only to never come after phone jockeying so many texts and calls. I am sick of these bike ads with no proper info on frame size, year, components, often they don't even mention their locale, I felt like venting here a lil and warning people of this site.

I don't have the cheddar to get a great or even decent bike new. Well I do, but I am on unemployment vacation right now, so it is imprudent to ravage my savings which I especially need right now. I was gonna order the Motobecane Fantom Trail as I have mentioned in my other posts, but bikesdirect emailed me saying it does not have braze-ons for a rear rack. I wanted to eventually get a rear rack that can at least handle 40 lb. for local grocery shopping, so that had me considering Craigslist used.

@dhambrick:
Yeah, that is their double ads. The actual bike looks like it might be this 1998 (or even older since that is when the Rockhopper line last had rigids) that retailed for $430: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?ItemID=70018&Type=bike
But he is asking $350, 12+ years later!

@buffalotit:
I am assuming you are Mark the mutant. I guess dhambrick was honest about wasting your time, or you couldn't have found this thread, LOL!
Remember, I know your real name, have your phone #, your email, your girl's real name and her email too. You only know the false name in my email header and my email addy. Maybe I should email her some advice to get rid of toxic psycho's from her life, which I will do if dare insult me in this thread once more! If me simply telling you by email I'm not interested and that you should alter your misleading ad, had you raging like some butthurt, unhinged, rabid squirrel, I can only imagine what those actually close to you have to deal with. My condolences to your family and acquaintances, they need a well-spring of tolerance and anti-acid tablets to deal with you.
These racks work on most bikes and don't require any mounting points other than a seat tube. I say it again yesterday at my LBS and remembered the manufacturer.

thanks for teaching how to be a responsible craigslist advertiser. i feel awful for leading people on and i have made a vow to never again post a bike with a rigid fork and advertise it as a bike with a suspension fork. i feel foolish and ashamed and only have the lord to thank for leading me in the direction of this thread which has so profoundly changed me. my dearest apologies to all that i have mislead i am terribly terribly sorry.

Why waste your time with obvious tools and asshats on CL ? Lifes too short .
Since this thread is going for a crap anyway .....

Agreed. Reminds me of people driving on the highway, tailgating someone in the fast lane that is driving "too slow" (meaning not doing 20 over the limit like the tailgater wants to be doing). I just pass on the right, screw wasting my time because of one douchebag that is "trying to amke a point and set an example". Way to lower stress while driving.

If i'm interested and the seller can't provide pics of the ACTUAL product i'm hesitant to meet up. I certainly won't go out of my way to see it if I don't know it isn't exactly what they state. If there is some confusion, two differing ads such as this case, I call them on it and ask for an explanation. Anything I don't like, at that point, has me backing out and saving what time I have left to MOVE ON.

:)

I sold a Cannondale F4 on CL a while back and apart from one kid that kept stalling and begging me not to sell the bike while at the same time wheeling and dealing on the MMBA boards, it was relatively painless.

The kid that ended up buying it was so happy and grateful that he was getting a bike that I went down on the price. I did include the seat.

Buffalotit, lol. Nice user name.

Sifting through the garbage on CL is very easy:

1. Spelling and grammar - if absent, move on.

2. Photos - phone photos or brochure photos, move on.

3. Ultra new bike for cheap - move on, it's stolen.

4. No understanding of bike or parts, move on, not worth the headache.

5. Conveniently missing key information (like year of manufacture or size), move on.

Follow these rules and you'll get to the gems on CL in minutes.

Don't bother engaging the mutants - they will drag you down to the depths of hell.

I just half-paid for a Trek 6000, new, from a local bike shop. They did not have my frame size so in 4-5 days I will hopefully be riding. I wasted so many man-hours searching Craigslist in North NJ, NYC, Central NJ, and even Philadelphia. I predict I would have wasted many more man hours, to eventually realize with horror that summer is gonna end and I still have no bike.

Craigslist is too much hassle, it is good if you have a bike already to maybe set up an alert to look for something better or something to fill a different niche. I live near some of the greatest metropolitan areas in the world and I had trouble finding a good well described deal like you mentioned, canuckjgc. No selling is probably different for the people on this forum, because they are enthusiasts and will not write ads like, "Bike, Trek".

With the amount of time and potential savings you could find on craigslist for a bike, you are better hanging out where Mexican day laborers wait to get picked up, to earn extra cheddar. Craigslist is better for something like a laptop that is one size fits all, but for bikes the people there are not smart enough to figure out to make a proper listing with frame size, model year, make, describing what they are trying to sell, often they ask for way too much money for very old bikes. If they do post pics, they host them on Craigslist where it is resized too small instead of uploading to imageshack. I have like 15 items myself listed and dealing with the people is generally frustrating. I have been trying to sell a gameboy color since February. So far I had 2 no shows, one guy said he would send a money order and hasn't.
