Today I was putting my bike away when I noticed there was a leak coming from somewhere on my back wheel. I then found out it was leaking out a small gap in the rim where it joins. I was wondering if I need to buy a new rim or if it is fine?
Btw I run tubeless.

OP, what rim is it exactly? The shop just wants your $$, no reason to scream bloody hell yet, best thing to do would be to contact the manufacturer and see what they say. Pics always help.

And then there's someone like me who owns so many pinned rims and have built so many wheels for others using said same rims and never an issue :skep:

That's the seam of the rim where it's pinned together. The rim is structurally fine most likely but you may have tubeless issues. I replace it if it happens. Do yourself a favor and look for rims with welded joints. I've had several pinned and sleeved rims fail like that.

This is common issue with a simple fix.
First make sure the rim is structurally sound. I've seen many rims with a slight crack on the joint that are perfect to ride.

The way I have fixed it is using a piece fo stans tape and paste it perpendicular to the rim/along the joint. Best if the tape shows a bit outside the rim. Then tape the rim normally on top of it. Of course make sure everything is perfectly clean and use isopropyl to make sure the tape adheres well.

One of the local mechanics does this to every rim he sets up tubeless.

Hope it helps.
