I'm a student at UCI, wondering if theres any good mountain trails around the area? I'm looking for intermediate trails and jumps... preferably within biking distance but I can drive too. I dont think theres very many mountains in the area though
Lots of riding close to UCI. If you head towards santiago peak area, eastward, there is a lot of riding there. Trabuco Canyon, Santiago Truck Trail, Holy Jim Main Divide, San Juan Trail... just to name a few. Id say they are about 20-30 min drive from there.cjh_mtb said:I'm a student at UCI, wondering if theres any good mountain trails around the area? Wow, we're getting a bunch of new guys. As far as downhill, at most of the college races there is a downhill race on one of the days, but most people do cross country.RuNDmC1087 said:thats awsome ill be going to UCI this fall....btw do any of u guys ride DH????

i tried to find this area on a map and found out that turtle rock is not off university but it is off campus. sounds like an awesome trailshimstar said:i know this is an old thread but i would like everyone in the Irvine area to take note of this place
there are some hidden places and over the years i have found intermediate jumps embedded into a short downhill trail with beautiful scenery. If you are living near uci, follow university drive, pass culver and keep going until you hit turtle rock drive. Then turn right and keep going...first stop sign is called amalfi? turn left there, then keep going until you hit via novella. turn left and at the end of the street you will find a trail leading from the base of the mountain to the top. push your bikes up to the very top, keep following the trail and you will see a double track trail with banks and some jumps (you know youve reached the top when you see a wooden post with two green trash cans. Trails start from there on the summit.
Now the track. Im assuming that this trail was made a long time ago and it is very well made with some banks that are pretty large (theyre kinda worn out tho) and some intermediate jumps along that trail. Explore that hill and you will find other jumps there too including a nice switch jump. Its awesome and with a little bit of work i guess it can be made into a full double track downhill trail for racing. have fun!![]()
head down the 405, to the 133 south towards Laguna, or to Laguna Niguel/Aliso Viejo. Some awsome loops around Wood Canyon, or El Moro.cjh_mtb said:I'm a student at UCI, wondering if theres any good mountain trails around the area?
