This thread is useless without the matching 1/8 inch specific cogs.

The idea of an 1/8 inch drive-train is more of an ecosystem than picking and choosing certain 1/8 inch parts and thinking you have a bomber drive-train.

If you run an 1/8 inch chain on a 3/32" cog you get premature chain wear.

If you run an 1/8 inch chain on a 3/32" c-ring you get premature c-ring wear.

Oh and you forgot to add Bacon to your polling.
Solution: So I run an 1/8 chain on my 1/8 ring and 1/8 cog, which btw HBC makes and sells (selfless plug for HBC) and everything wears the same?

As a fellow engineer what i would like to see is some finite element analysis of the ring you designed. Being thicker, and having more metal does not make it proportionally stronger or stiffer. It's having the material in the correct spot that makes a part stronger and stiffer. I would rather see an intelligently designed ring, not a ring made thicker for the sake of thicker.

I think almost all bikers have a little weight weenie in them, for the same money, same performance (read life span etc into performance), i think we'd all buy the lighter product if it didn't sacrifice anything. I think there is always a market for quality design and executed parts. making a thicker/beefier surly ring to me isn't quality design and i would never pay any kind of premium for it.

My Advice, is work on the design, make it stand apart, market it with engineering data not "look how much thicker it is" and then the response here may not be so negative. ISAR set the bar high, he makes high quality beautiful parts and has converted a lot of the forum.

I'll bet you could shape that ring differently remove some of the weight, and still have a ring that won't fold like the surly.
