I live in Florida, a dropper is not something I really need. I have stan arches with Rekons 2.6 front and rear. XTR Brakes, AL frame, 140mm pike, xpeedo spry pedals, x01 11 speed,
SC carbon bars, renthal duo stem, easton ec90 seatpost, CB 3 saddle, x2 shock. I pretty much throw it off anything. But if I lived in the mountains I would have to add a couple of pounds for sure, more meat on the front and a dropper.
I live in Central Florida and use my dropper all the time. lol.

do you think santa cruz have gone too far with the 170mm headtube on the xl frames?
v3 version should be like a v2 bronson with better seatangle?
still cant decide if i should buy a new 5010 or bronson frame. is the v3 5010 still as playful and snappy as v2? i am currently on a v2 bronson but i dont need all of its travel most of the time. v2 5010 was a bit too sketchy in gnarly terrain but with geo update and 140-150 fork on v3 it should be spot on.

I have a 150mm Fox 36 on my v3 5010, and I find it's incredibly capable. I also have a Nomad 4, and the only times the 5010 lacks a little is for really big hits or consistently chunky terrain.

I agree with Holmespun, a long with your description of your needs the 5010v3 sounds perfect for you. I too was worried about the head tube but rarely have I seen slammed stems on these, maybe just fewer spacers which is actually a bit better imho. For racing enduro seriously there's better bikes, but its stiff and hardy and whatever you are up for, the bike is in my experience.

Getting ready to build my 5010 from a CC frame. GOing to throw on my 2018 Fox 36 and reduce it down to 140mm. Cannot wait to build this thing up!

Anyone who is 5'7" on a medium know if the 150mm dropper post will work?

Definitely, with room to spare.
This. I'm 5'7" and the 150mm dropper is perfect for me. Now, if only it actually worked. POS Raceface is about to be warrantied.

I’m 5’9” on a large and would have to run a 125 on a reverb but I’m able to go to the 160 bike yoke which is pretty much the exact same collar to rail as the reverb. I’m more satisfied with every aspect of that dropper compared to the reverb.

anyone on the medium getting pedal strikes with the 175mm cranks at all?
Yup! I can't ride with it in the Low setting at all on my local trails otherwise it's pedal strike city. I also have big flat pedals so that doesn't help. Going to change it to 170mm arms soon.

Do you want a 9.22 pound frame or a 6.55 pound frame?

I think with the geo updates and longer reach, and putting a 140/150 fork on the 5010 V3 it will be close to Bronson V2 capability's, but still be playful.

What rear shock sag settings are you running and why? Anyone adding compression damping?
Sorry to respond to a question with another question, but does anyone know also what spacer volume comes stock in the dpx2 on a 5010? I weigh 155 kitted and am currently at about 27 to 30% sag with 170 in the rear shock. I think I have 4 clicks from full open on the damping compression, and 3 from full open with rebound. I like it okay, but still want to play with it and have not changed the internal spacers at all. Anyone else play with this? I ride a lot of rooty and rocky single-track around the Bay Area and some in Tahoe for reference.
