Hey everyone!
Proud owner of a new 2016 5010 CC X01 (large, blue) and wondered if anyone had suggestions on a starting point for setting up the suspension for a 220lb rider looking at aggressive trail riding and some trials. First bike since back surgery a bunch of years ago so basically starting from scratch. Will post pics when it arrives today or tomorrow (but you know what it looks like). Thanks a lot for any help!

For what it's worth...

1) I set sag using recommended PSI from Santa Cruz as a starter based on my weight. I had to bleed the shock and start from scratch, cycling as I went, as my local shop didn't do that and the shock was too stiff. Verified that I got the desired sag % in riding position.

2) I set rebound using the "curb drop" method that yields the slowest rebound (most damping) you want. I then backed off one click to speed it up. It happens that setting matched the recommended setting from Fox for the DPS EVOL shock at my PSI for the sag I set in (1).

Caveats: I don't ride this bike that aggressively or through big drops. I mostly ride it to have fun on green/blue trails with more of an old-school XC feel. I ride my Nomad on blue/black AM/DH trails. So you might find you want to play with sag or spacers/tokens, and you might have a little more trouble than me given that you're about 30lb heavier.

If your 5010 has the Fox Evol you will probably be around 270-285psi in the rear shock. Seems excessive but that was the only way for me to get the 5010 to not tear through all its travel. I think I was around 25-28% sag. The one thing I was surprised about was how much air that Evol needed. Super fun bike for sure, enjoy.
