you can definately fit other chainrings to the XTR crankset (like wolftooth). max chainring you can put on this frame is a 36t round, so you would need to find out how "oval" the 34 chainring is you want to put. i would also check if your crank fits the frame (there is a narrow 162mm Q factor version of this crank, maybe this won't fit).

i would put a dropper on such a frame ;-).

Thanks for the reply!
The manual says a 36t indeed fits the frame.
If you check the US Specialized website and take a look at the Epic Evo Pro. This bike is fitted with the XTR crank with 162mm Q-factor. Both XTR cranks (162mm and 168mm) has the same chainline so it should fit, I suppose.🤷‍♂️

You should be able to hit that weight target no problem. I have a 2018 XL Epic pro I built to 18.3lbs. Recently picked up the XL 2022 Epic Evo s-works frameset in Orange (semi-locally) and will transfer parts over. I think I can get it under 18lbs hopefully... we'll see.
Wow, that really light! May I ask you what components u used for the 2018 Epic and will be transferred to the new frame?

Almost everything will transfer over, even the shock if I wanted to ( I had de-brained the 2018), with a travel limiter, but will probably keep the DPS as it's only maybe 20-30g more.

Wheels: 1170g BTLOS 22mm ID with DT 180 exp hubs and CX-ray spokes
tires: thunder burt liteskin
cockpit: extralite (bars, stem, grips)
trickstuff piccola brakes
Sram 2-piece rotors (center lock) - might switch to Shimano XTR MT-900
darimo t1 loop seatpost and sub-4 seatpost clamp
Tune saddle (Komm-vor)
Sid Ultimate SL 100mm fork
Will probably go to XX1 AXS as it's supposedly no heavier than regular XX1 (which is currently on it)
Xpedo M-force 8 ti pedals
rear shock: X-fusion Microlite RL with Bikeyoke yoke
Plus a few other various bits

Hi guys,

I just posted something in the "2021 Epic Evo" thread. Just saw this thread so here's my post again:

I have been reading a lot on this forum and finally made an account.
I've been riding a Specialized Epic Hardtail for 8 years now. Several times a year I go to spain to compete some marathons.
This year I have been suffering with my hardtail (or it's just me getting older:D). So I decided to build a new (YOLO:giggle:) bike.
I ordered the S-works Epic Evo frame. The frame should be delivered in december.
Looking to build this with the following components:
  • Full XTR m9100 groupset
  • Roval Control SL wheelset
  • Fox 34 120mm factory stepcast shiny orange
  • Darimo seatpost and handlebar
  • Tune speedneedle saddle

I don't know about the weight but i'm trying to get to (or under) 9,5kg (20.9lbs)

Somebody knows if it's possible to mount a 34t oval chainring to the XTR m9100 crankset?

34T oval doesn‘t work. Chain touches chainstay. I tried it with an absolute black chainring.

I managed to look at the Specialized website at just the right time, and pulled the trigger on the S-works frame, in rust! It was the only option left, and although not my first choice, it has grown on me. Now the fun part - putting parts on it. Just a quick q - which Shimano post mount to use for a 180mm brake rotor on the rear? It will have Shimano XT, 4-piston brakes. I assume the native size is 160mm, since that's the minimum size listed. If anyone has the stock s-works build, it should have a 180mm rotor on the rear.

I will post the full build when it's done!

SM-MA-F180P/P2 is what you want.

Try to find the Speshy little top chain guide that comes with the Enduro frame. It fits perfectly with an MRP BB->ISCG '05 adapter.

I don't suggest drinking while trying to run the cables through the frame. ;)

I've been looking for chainguide solutions for the epic evo, looks like this is another good option from MRP, you definitely wouldn't need tab adapter unless you are trying to run a bash guide as well, this assuming it works as they claim seems a good solution! Pretty similar to the oneup solution Santa Cruz has for the new blur.
