I've noticed that Mavic no longer lists the Crossmax SL with a Lefty version, and only the SLR has one. Also, the SLR is advertised as having the same spec as the SL, but has lighter skewers that save weight. So what is the deal here? Are the SLRs better in any other way, and could I still buy a new Lefty SL wheelset?

Both the 07 SL and SLR are better than the 06 and before Crossmax SL. They are lighter and have a better freehub. They are the exact same wheels except for the color and that the SLR have Ti skewers and come with a wheel bag. Also, as you noticed, only the SLR are available in Lefty editions...

Hey Dan, I just got a set, I think the rims are thinner on the SLR's, if I'm not mistaken. My Prophet is reborn, new Stronglight XTR rings, hopefully better than the stock ones. Talon, my Lefty SL's are on eBarf right this second, 'nuff said on that.

Nice wheels Mendon, nice bike too.

Yes the rims are thinner compared with the SLs from 06 and before... but look at a 07 SL and it's thinner too. 07 SLs and SLRs are the same wheels...

Thanks, first ride last night, they feel nice and quick. Now if only they could get instant engagement......

I've not seen the '07 SL's, or shall I say, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention when I did. But that would explain my ignorance=:)

Cool, but aren't they a little heavier? I thought having a custom blue or green would look sweet with my BTC Rush, but that would add $150 more.
True, custom colors are extra, but the SLR's are about a grand, anywhere you go, and I9 pricing is similar, but generally had for a bit less than that, especially if you know who to talk to......:D

Mendon-those are awesome wheels-I wish I could afford some for my rush 800 but a grand is a lot (and more than half of what I paid for the entire bike)-and Talon, I'm a lawyer and if you hate them now, you're going to really hate them when you become one.

They are nice, that's for sure=:) The only way I could afford them was to offload my SL's that came with the bike. Kinda sad to see them go, but, new toys require drastic measures:thumbsup:

Yeah, the new freehub is supposed to help in the durability dept. but is not any quicker than the old one... Still, you are lucky to have these wheels. I think I will have to pass the upgrade cycle this year. My Prophet is already quite nicely built but I just bought a car, my girlfriend is going back to school full-time and I'm not good with plants so my money-tree is not growing as fast as I would like... so my old SLs will have to stay.

Which color Rush 800 did you get? I have the Race Red one and it looks really sweet. The SLRs or I9s, when I eventually get them, will however go on the BTC Rush warranty frame. For now I put the RP23 rear shock on my Rush to enjoy at the moment, and I also upgraded to a Thomson Elite seatpost because of my heavy arse. Oh, and I'm sure there are going to be some real winners in law. I'm planning on going into corporate and hopefully I won't run into many Gloria Allred types there. I have always been interested in becoming an airline pilot since very young, but unfortunately with the aviation industry as volatile as it is I'd rather not risk it.

So Mendon, the standard I9s are slightly under a grand, and it's $150 more for a fade? Also, are they available with any kind of rim? The fade sounds cool, but I still want to keep it tasteful. Those blue ones in the pix look really nice, though because they are my favorite color. :)

More pics added to my gallery.....
I THINK blue is $150 more...Someone chime in here....And I had read a Fade was $150 more also...So a red fade would be $150? But then would a blue to silver fade would be $300?
Anyway I think a standard I9 wheelset is $800-$850 for an all-mountain wheelset with DT 4.1D hoops, with 6 degree engament in a red/silver/black color.ANY combo of those colors too...1/3 silver spokes,1/3 red, and 1/3 black..
Add something for 3 degree engagment etc etc etc ..
With my wheels Stans hoops added a bit ..The blue added a bit...The 3 degree added a bit...The 990 cassette added a bit, the tires added a bit...
I have to stop focusing on the bits!!! and more on the whole, IE a whole lot better than the 117's I had
CDT
Hey would 16 red spokes followed by 16 blue spokes render a purple effect at speed???

I'm still going nuts just thinking about the colors, although I really like the DT 4.1d rims and will likely give them the tubeless kit treatment. It would be nice if you could get the rims to match. The problem is that just about any color will look nice with the BTC Rush, so it's hard to narrow down.

SO I OPEN IT to anyone here, what do you guys think? :) I'm also liking green, but I've had this lifelong wish for a blue bike but never got it because the model I selected never came in blue.

I'm home right now, no access to pricing, but Tony's about right. The thing to remember about custom colors, is it's PER COLOR. You do green hubs, with blue spokes, that's 2 upcharges. Any rim you like, though certain lengths are stock, others incur a custom spoke length charge, and a good chunk of waiting, well worth it though if you want a Red hub, White Velocity rim, blue spoke combo though=:) Wait, the carbons made in China, just do an all red wheelset=:) Tony, I like the speed blend idea, I think it would actually work, Rivendell Bicycles has a patent on Speed Blend tires, two colored sidewalls that yes, blend at speed. Cool.

I got the Race Red also and I love it but my favorite paint was actually the orange on the 600 but for a few hundred more I thought the 800 was the way to go.
