What have you built up?
What components do you love and are you replicating across bikes?

I want photo's and build specs.

I'm building a chome 2024 Transition TransAm.

It will be epic and do epic things.

I am scrapping parts from my Specialized Status so my TA will have:

Marzocchi Bomber Z1 with Smashpot (may go Lyrik if this one is too heavy)
GX Eagle Drivetrain (from the Status)
Delium Steady 29er tire w/ Fast 27.5 rear tire
DT Swiss 350 hubs with EX front rim and FR rear rim (from the Status)
SDG dropper post
SRAM Code RSC brakes w/ North Fork brake calipers (from the Status)
Race Face Turbine crank (from the Status)
Bontrager saddle and pedals (from my Slashy)
FasstCo Flex handlebar (I've had this bar for ages - been on every bike)
Wolf Tooth headset

No photos yet. Bike is just a frame chillin' on the build stand. Parts arrive today.

No photo's, no proof....
Photo's or it didnt happen....

Start or by uploading a photo of the frame in the bike stand then slowly tease us with the build with incremental changes as it goes.

If it doesn't have a 455, it's clearly not a TA!!

I built up an RSD Wildcat 125 since I wanted something with a little more travel than my XC bike for some of the chunky trails here. I had a bunch of parts lying around so it was a bit of a parts bin / budget build. I also got a good deal on a Shimano XT groupset, so I used a few of those components and some that I swapped from my XC bike.

RSD Wildcat 125 V3 frame, XL
DVO Topaz shock
DVO Sapphire D1 fork, 140 mm
Shimano SLX shifter, derailleur, cassette (10-51)
Shimano XT 175 mm cranks, 30 T chainring
Shimano XT brakes, 4 piston
TransX dropper, 170 mm
WTB Koda saddle
Alloy bars from my XC bike
Cheap wheelset from my XC bike
Specialized Purgatory tires, 2.6"
One Up alloy pedals, but I've replaced those with an old set of Shimano SPDs
Whatever lime green anodized bits I could find (to match the DVO bits)

It ended up at about 35 pounds. (The frame and wheels are really heavy.)

My other build this year was a commuter. This was also a budget / parts bin build.

Seaboard GR02 alloy frame, XL ($350 from AliExpress, shipped)
Sensah SRX brifters
Shimano GRX crank, 40 T ring
Shimano 11-34 cassette
Shimano 105 derailleur
Tektro MD-C550 brakes (mechanical disc)
WTB Slate saddle
Easton bars
DT Swiss E1850 Spline wheelset
WTB Byway tires, 700x44 mm
A few other AliExpress bits

Overall, I love this bike way more than I thought I would. I've taken it on some easy trails and dirt roads and it does really well, plus it feels pretty close to a road bike on pavement. I'm not thrilled with the shifting, but it's functional. I may have to replace the brifters with some used Shimano 105s at some point.

Built up a Smuggler this summer:

Image

Carbon Smuggler frame, size large.
X0 Transmission
Helm MKII
I9 stem and Enduro S Carbon wheels
XT 8120 brakes (with Disco copper free pads and Magura Storm HC rotors)
OneUp V2 dropper than I can’t wait to toss in the trash
Specialized Butcher T9 upfront, Eliminator T7 out back, both in 2.3”

I now get to stare at it hanging in the garage for the next few months while I let my foot heal from a fractured metatarsal.

Svelte!

And suck on that moon boot.

Also built the RS-291 up for my daughter, as she outgrew the Timberjack:

Image

Will probably move her away from the 27.5+ wheels and to 29ers pretty soon as she said that she liked the wheels I originally had the bike.

But those wheels (I9 enduro wheels with Spec Butcher/Eliminator) were marked to go back on my StEvo.

So she will just have to wait her turn.

My Reeb SST, a.k.a. The Wizard, a.k.a. The Most Overthought Bike Ever.

Image

Rockshox suspension (Push HC97 in the Lyrik)
Cane Creek headset, bb, and cranks
Bikeyoke seatpost, clamp, and stem
Peasant XX1 cable drivetrain
Hope Tech 4 E4 brakes and dropper lever
DT Swiss XMC 1200 wheels with a rotating cast of tires.

With pedals, EDC tool in the steer tube, bottle cage, and a bit of mud, it’s 33 lbs. Portly for a 120/140, but the extra weight is in the frame where it has little effect on performance. A bombproof beauty.

That blue looks great!

33lbs isn't too bad, IMO. My 140/130 carbon Smuggler hit the scales at 30.3, ready to ride (but no mud).

My alloy StEvo, with Z1 coil and Kitsuma air came out to about 34.5lbs.

Youngest got their forever bike
Still needs a wheelset, but this will do for now
Bxt-m-117 size S
Cane Creek helm
DNM air shock (vanilla r is waiting on a spacer)
magura MT30s
And a box of parts
They decided last night to make it dragon themed and to add flames:eek:

DIY Specialized Epic knock off frame:
eWings and Hellbender BB
SRAM AXS GX
TRP Trail EVO Brakes
Noble TR32 wheel with Onyx Hubs
Whiskey Carbon bars, stem, and seat post
Rock Shox SID SL Ultimate

Just waiting on the wheels to come in the mail. I still have to figure out the headset situation, calls for a Specialized specific integrated HS but as the picture shows, the bearing sits proud of the head tube by 1mm, I have to figure out a way to get it to fit properly, found a headset cap that works perfectly. Chinese knock off frame so I expected something to be out of spec.

Here is my build from a few weeks back.

Deviate Mullet Claymore medium frame.

Bought the frame, dropper and stem from the Deviate importer.
Then a custom build kit from the local bikeshop. If I had hunted around the internet I could have made more savings. But these days I like to support the local bike shop when I can.

Full xt 12 speed groupset, Xt brakes.
Enve Foundation wheelset
FSA headset.
ODI grips
SDG Belair saddle
oneup V3 210mm dropper, and 42mm stem.

Re-used the following
Renthal fab bar
Zeb ultimate, I upgraded it to 180mm with a new airshaft
Push ll-6. The push set up for 230x65. However the Claymore standard spec is 230x60.
I'm getting about 7ish mm or so extra travel out of the frame that takes it to 173mm of travel.

Full ride wrap kit. I tell you what,,,, what an absolute C#nt putting the kit on.... Jeeeesus, glad I don't buy a new bike that often.

My winter project will most likely be what you refer to as a “whippet”, and that thing is getting full Ridewrap, which I’m already dreading…

A couple of little updates for the SST - the long awaited Linear XL air can finally came in for the shock (no trail time yet but feels like a wonderful match for the Pike 3.1), and I swapped to a set of Schwalbe XC tires for some experimentation.
