Just built up a new 2022 Status 140 Medium frameset I bought. I have a 12 speed NX cassette, derailleur and shifter from another bike (not used). I can't get it to shift smoothly through all the gears. Crazy question - If you have a medium with a 12 NX drivetrain that shifts perfectly, could you tell me how many links are in your chain? This may be the problem.
Thanks
My s3 has shifted like caca since I brought it home. It will be getting a new drivetrain before the next time I ride it. Likely gx 10 speed.

NX is junk and will not shift perfectly. You might get it acceptable, but that is about it. I put a brand new NX derailleur on my Son's Status build and the return spring in the clutch broke with only 18 miles on it. In my opinion GX is first good SRAM derailleur, SX and NX should be avoided.

Thanks I'm beginning to realize maybe it is just the quality of the derailleur

My bike has X01 and I have two other bikes with GX, they all work great. I got the NX derailleur super cheap thinking I'd just get my Son's bike going with it and upgrade to GX when it wore out/failed, but I was expecting to get 6 months out of it, not 3 rides. Before it broke it shifted just OK, nothing more. His NX crankset seems perfectly fine and I have not used an NX shifter so I cant comment, but for sure I think anything less than GX in derailleurs is a waste of money.

Status have same size chain stay so chain length should be equal for same cassette / sprocket

NX in general shift like ****, however u can improve shifting by properly angling cable on chain stay, just pull it out of frame for half an inch, so it will have better angle while u pulling cable, that will make shifting reasonable.

Was bored this morning and doing some random thinking "i wonder how a 29er rear would fit in there and how it will affect things"... Well it seems to fit in there perfectly well and has enough clearance for the tyre with a High Roller on the back and a Hunt trail wide (Just wheel and tyre i had lying round).
Bike feels good, so i'm going to give it a run at lunchtime (or once a new set of garden furniture arrives)

Yep...done the same here and seen a few others. I don't think anyone has run anything larger than a 2.4 in there. I did some really (really) rough measurements and it raises the BB around 10mm. Not sure exactly how much is steepens up the STA and HTA but I ran it in the high position but I would give it a rough guess of one degree or so.

I tried it with the stock 2.3 Eliminator that came on my Stumpy EVO and with a 2.3 Maxxis Aggressor. Both "fit" sitting still and on easy riding, but both hit the chain stays during aggressive riding. I think it would be a decent option for more XCish trails where you know you are not going to get aggressive. I dont think it will work on terrain the Status was intended for.

I rode my Status 160 all week at Angel Fire bike park, and it was a hoot. The bike is just fun fun fun pointed downhill.
The Z1 Coil fork & Bomber CR rear shock performed great as well. I don't think you can find a better value on a great feeling fork (especially at current sale prices on 2022 models) if you don't care about weight.
Still waiting to see how long it takes for the bike to eat the Bomber CR. No issues yet. It's performing great.

Question time... I've got an annoying squeak on the front wheel. I removed the End cap from 1 side, but the other side appears to be fixed onto the 15mm spacer ? Is that correct or should both side spacers come off the sleeve ?

There's nothing complex in fixing the noise, it's either a bearing or the sleeve.. but i'd like to work out if both end-caps come off it ? Can't find anything useful anywhere online yet.

This is similar and off a Stumpy/Evo/etc
Looks like it's fixed.

i jumped on Ebay in the last few weeks with the thoughts of buying a coil... I'd forgotten this for a little while but then last night i checked and found this

bomber by Steve Weeks, on Flickr

It'll need a heavier spring which is pretty cheap, but it'll do the job nicely on the Status. I'm looking forward to getting it on and playing over in the Alps soon. It's not quite a DH bike of course, but it's pretty sweet.

It did have a dust-creak after some riding the other day, but a quick strip, clean and torque of the linkages soon took care of that :)

I'm hoping it'll be here for Thurs when we're heading to FoD so i can test it out. Still debating whether to do the Thurs night race or not this week, but even if not, i'll still ride

Hello
Can you advise me if this could be a good or bad idea?
Since Status frames are really cheap lately,( and I like the idea to try a mullet, me being 5,7 ) and beautifully made with a good shock. Im thinking to build up a 140 frame to become my daily trail bike. I know that this not the ideal trail frame as its nature is a fun park heavy duty bike...but I wonder if I would be good enough if I would build it as light as possible.
I would use a RC3 PIke 140mm fork ( 1900 grams ) , Hunt Wide Trail wheels ( now I have a full 29 pair..I would but the singe rear wheel ) which is around 1900 grams total, Specialized Eliminator tires , around 900 grams each...and other light parts taken down from my 29 trail hardtail.
I also would use the HIGH flip chip position to close a bit the head angle and gain some mm's for the uphills to avoid pedal strikes. I also would use my Shimano 165mm crankset.
I made some not so precise gram list and I guess I would end with a 13,9-14,2 kilos for the complete build. My size would be S2 to keep the reach not so long and help the "trailbike" feeling.
Is that a bad idea after all?
thank you
