My frame for 2024 arrived. What to do next? Wait for FA or just equip it with a non-remote Sid 35?
With the original long travel version Rock Shox Flight Attendant it was initially only available on complete bike builds (Flight Attendant launched all the way back in October 2021! ) and the aftermarket kits weren’t announced until December 2022, over a year later.


I think I’d get a standard fork, even if a basic model, to be able to ride the bike rather than wait.:)
 
Small complex (relatively) parts do not lend themselves to CF. Let alone stems, think about why you don’t see CF bolts. Good points made above. My hixon sl is able to blend the stem into the handlebar for one large part, as opposed to a cf stem that stays relatively small with another clamp at the far end.
Those 1 piece stem/ bar combos aren't any lighter than a high end stem/ bar combo. They aren't adjustable and obviously the positioning is pretty specific to a certain HTA. To top it off, every review states that they are harsh feeling.

I like the look and the general 'trickness' of them, but the fact that they are objectively worse in every measure makes them a bridge to far, for me.

BTW, you can buy a Hixon clone, which very well might be an actual Hixon, on Aliexpress for like 70% off the prices of Hixon.

Lets just say that the hixon SL, an ENDURO stem-bar combo, is 5g lighter than my previous skinnier Next SL handlebar and super-light ritchey stem.

so yes, it is lighter. Stronger. Wider.
 
I think Flight Attendant is going to be like Live-valve or the old Fox-ICD. Work really well, but have a cost/performance gain ratio that scares people away. It will float primarily around the WC race circuit for a couple of year before being phased out of production.

But I am probably wrong, I did say the same thing about Carbon wheels and Wireless shifting.
 
I don’t care how light the fox is, they need to concentrate on not making damping suck. Then worry about chassis.

I've ridden RS and Fox (and Manitou and DT 10 years ago so I figure my experience there is limited since there must have been some development), IMO the Fox is far superior to RS (Fox SC34 to Sid Ultimate 32 and 35). You keep complaining, why not just buy something else? I'm perfectly happy with Fox damping and don't want them to change it at all.
 
Stock Epic Evo shock is 190x40 for 110mm travel.
190x42.5 shock would give it 118mm travel, maybe?
But I wouldn't risk increasing the travel on flex stay bike. The chainstay is engineered to flex a certain amount within its travel range. I would not feel comfortable making it flex more.

That would make more sense than what was originally posted regarding stroke length.
 
I got my FA -45% from R2-bike a few weeks ago. Finally converted the shock from 210x55 to 190x42.5mm for Epic Evo. This is going to be interesting

I mean, how are you going to control it? Doesn't it need a fork sensor/ crank sensor to respond?

I'm intrigued but also confused because FI is an eco-system and I don't think you can just bolt a shock on and rock out.
