M8000 crankset and a xt bottom bracket, 73mm. Do I need a spacer? You know how it is. Between the brain fog and that old bike sitting around for a few years I can't remember if I need spacers.

Some bb have a wider side to them. Which should go drive side. I know because I just went Through this tonight.

Others are built to use a spacer.

IMO It’s better to have the wider bb as the bearing will be offset with it providing better crank stabilization.

With a Shimano Deore XT 73mm BSA threaded bottom bracket it needs a 2.5mm spacer on the drive side.:)

What will happen if you forgot to put 2.5mm spacer on 73mm bb?
I recently finished a frame-up build and didn't install the spacer on my first go-round with the BB. This caused the chain to not clear the chainstay when in the smallest 2 cogs. Also if you're using the spindle sleeve that slips over the spindle between the 2 sides of the BB, it will crush/kink (from being too long) after the BB is tightened preventing the spindle from turning freely.
