Old thread here! I like those Burgtec bars.

Fwiw I went with Enve M9's in 50mm rise and a 31.8 stem. Super dope setup and they are WAY more comfortable than my crappy RF Next R 35 bars (those things were so harsh...)
Did you get 810 wide? Did you cut them? Do the vibrate at all? Sorry old post just curious. I have the ones pictured above. They are Cannondale with a inverted slammed Industry 9 stem. I like the handlebars I just wish the crossbar was thicker. I don't trust it. I since flipped and raised my stem back up and put on Specialized riser bars. Same height with either setup. Everything I have read says it is best to have the stem right on the headset.? It's a White Industries headset.

Short of buying a buying a bunch of bars and trying them out, how do you determine the rise you need? I'm 6'5" tall, riding a XXL Jeffsy with a DMR Defy stem with all the spacers under it, and the stock 35mm rise bar, but feel like I could still use some more height. The only reason I say that is that I have a hard time getting my front end up. It's very possible it's my crappy technique though. I'm tempted to go all in and get the Spank 60mm bar, but it does look pretty silly. I know that shouldn't matter, but I don't know if I need that much. The Burgtec bar is definitely an option, but it has a 9 degree back sweep. I've heard that can feel very different when you're used to 8 degrees.

I'm 6-4 on a 2018 Rocky Mountain Instinct (custom 140 backend with 150 fork). I wanted my bars to be somewhat close to the height of my seat. I've got 6-4 wingspan (ape index of 1) and 34in seam. I also tried using Lee McCormacks RAD measurement and saw that I needed to extend my RAD. His measurement method is a bit shorter than some of the new marketing, ultra long bike stuff...so I figured I could def use it and I didn't want a 60mm stem either. I knew I needed more stack but didn't want to lose reach and my bars were below my seat fairly well. Nevertheless, adding the 50mm bars and only a single 10mm spacer made things WAY nice. It took some pressure off my hands when seated, gave me more control when jumping and descending and the bike just handles better for me and its not compromised my climbing either as I was able to slide my seat forward a bit without getting the weird down-ward hunch feeling when riding XC tech in the saddle. Best of both worlds so far.

Fwiw I also noticed Jack Mior's EWS racing setup. He's 6-6 and running a size large Canyon Strive with a lot of extra stack on his high bars rather than extra length. I think there is something there for us tall guys to learn from a bit...tho not sure I'd ride a large lol.

Is there a general guideline for the amount of drop from your seat to your bar? I'm not sure how much lower mine is, but it's a good bit. It would be more if I had my saddle at full height, but even with a dropper, I don't have it out all the way. My trails are never smooth enough to just chill on the saddle for more than a second or two to rest. I have a fairly big ape index (6'9.5" wingspan) and a 36" inseam. Not sure what that means for my torso length relative to anything else. This is the first bike frame I've had that actually fits, so I don't know what's right. What I'm used to is probably very wrong.

I'm not sure exactly whats proper but it certainly seems like the XC likes a slightly more roadbike setup with lower bars up front and minimal stack. The DH crowd likes more wider bars and more stack as it affords more control in the steeps (the Enve bars are of course DH bars).

Here is Jack's bike. His bars are higher than normal in my opinion and compensate a bit for riding a Large rather than an XL+. I think getting the bars around an inch lower than your seat or a touch less is a good starting spot. We are anomalies for human sizing so you'll likely have to test it out. It was REALLY nice for me personally. If your bike feels a bit too long already tho, it might impact that as you are increasing the distance from your BB to your grips.

This is Cathro's bike, I think he is 6-6:

Greg Minnar is 6-2 and on this Hightower. You can see the trend with the grips near the seat mostly.

My front wheel came up a few times on climbs with the stem raised and 2 inch specialized rise bars. The 4 inch Cannondale riser with the stem all the way down and flipped didn't come off the ground once. But my turns were A lot crisper with the stem raised version. I'm 6ft 2in with a 34 inseam.

This is helpful. My takeaway here is that (maybe?) I should try to get my bar a bit higher for general trail riding. Right now it's around 2.5" lower than my saddle. It seems like having them close to level is probably a good starting point. I'm rarely sitting, but the saddle seems like a decent reference. I think I'm going to try out the Burgtec with the 50mm rise. It's about $100 to get one shipped from the UK, so not a ton of money to throw at it. Maybe the Spank would be even better, but there don't seem to be many people running 60mm rise bars. I know there also aren't many people who are 6'5", but the Spank seems a bit extreme. We'll see how it goes I guess. Thanks for digging all this up for me.

If I'm understanding your previous post right, both setups give you the same bar height? But you get more front end lift with the lower rise bar and more spacers under it? I think that makes sense, right? More spacers under the bar would reduce your reach, and move your weight further back. (I think)

That's my logic too. I moved the seat forward to compensate for that but it still came up. I'm putting the 4 inch all the way down on to stay. Thank you.

I'm currently on Renthal fatboy lites with a 40mm rise which i like, but could use a little bit more rise. I've been searching for weeks and cant find any 35mm handlebars with a 50mm rise. Do you guys know of any?

I finally resolved to pulling the trigger on a 31.6 stem and either the spank 800 race or deity highsides until i realized how much more they weighed. Might be my only option though. Crazy how a smaller diameter setup nets more weight
Custom and a wad of cash, get what you want in terms of rise, upsweep and backsweep.

Spank makes the spoon 35 in a 60mm rise, and burgtec makes the josh bryceland signature in a 50mm rise
