I think I will choose an Epic Evo Expert instead of an Sworks XC, it seems a more reasonable and more comfortable choice, without the Brain, simple and reliable maintenance, but I will make it more focused on XCM, wheels I will use the Roval Control SL, carbon seatpost, complete Sram XX1 AXS and maybe put Level Ultimate brakes ........ Is it a good choice? Why these upgrades? because I already have all these parts, and the ones that will be left over from EVO I think I can sell easily.

That will work just fine - put the shock in high mode, run a longer stem and maybe narrower bars, up the rear shock pressure, bigger chain ring, and it should be a good marathon bike.

I use my Expert mostly for trails, but will probably do some XCM races when things open up. Won't change much - front tire & chain ring I guess. I like the dropper for XCM as well - better tuck on the downhills :D

So here's the (almost) final versionof my Epic Evo Comp Size M...

1913345

11 kgs (24.25 lbs) as pictured (including swat tool). Changes made:

  • Wheelset (Bitex hubs and Race Face Arc 25 rims laced with Sapim CX-Ray spokes)
  • SRAM Eagle XG-1295 10-50t cassette
  • Alero Decibel 740mm Flat handlebar
  • KMC Gold chain
  • Q2 Carbon 350mm seatpost

CB Eggbeater 2 pedals and tubeless tires. Not bad considering weight is comparable to Expert model but almost $1,000 cheaper. Definitely a better value for the money.

A better deal than an Expert? Perhaps. You removed about a pound of weight by deleting the dropper post, but you also deleted a useful feature. Just another way to get to a similar result.

I really like the expert with the exception of the brakes.
We got a good deal last fall,10% off my large and the wife got 15% of her small.
Lbs added carbon bars for free!

My LBS was having a hell of a time giving me an extra cage and bottle. I bought mine in late September, the only bikes in the shop were medium Epic Evos, 2 comps and one of each of the other levels. I grabbed a comp and felt lucky. They were sold out of them in just a few days. You guys did get a good deal.

What are the differences between the Sidluxe and the deluxe shocks? Is the performance of the Sidluxe much better or is it mostly the 100 gram weight difference? Mostly is there a discernible difference between the ride quality of the two if all other things were same on the bike?

Interesting question... would be nice to test both on similar terrain and see if there's any difference.

I am currently running the Deluxe shock and have a SIDluxe ultimate on order. So I will be able to compare the ride feel between the two. However my LBS cannot give a delivery date for the SIDLuxe... so I will just have to wait until it shows up.

I switched the shocks on my base epic that I bought for $3400 to the sid lux versions. Total cost was about $1000 for both front shock and rear shock. It was completely worth it. Bike feels much more supportive, I don't blow through the suspension quite as quickly small bump compliance is really good as well. I love the fact that the front shock has a lock out and is so much stiffer and precise than what was on it. I use it much more often than I thought I would. It was a worthy upgrade. I also bought a set of the specialized carbon wheels to go along with it for $800. I'm very satisfied with the way this bike has turned out. It's a lightweight precise trail munching machine.

This Xfusion Manic is a good dropper?

Some friend in a long term use?

Mine was replaced after one week of use under warranty. It developed play fore and aft that allowed water and muck in and then it just wouldn't go down and if I got it down it wouldn't go up. My LBS took the post and examined it and determined it wasn't over tightened or anything. It looked to my untrained eyes to be a seal problem, the top seal had gaps around the post. The LBS called Specialized who then immediately said they would replace it. I took a credit and applied it toward a Fox Transfer Elite. It has been issue free since other than freezing water in the cable that was my fault. With that taken care of it works down to 9 degrees (this morning) the same as 65 (the warmest I have ridden it).

Epic Evo Expert bars question:

Coming from Stumpjumper and Stumpjumper ST, moved to the Epic Evo Expert, which is a blast to ride. I got fitted on the bike and it took me a few miles to get used to the XC flat bars. I was getting numb fingers (the breaking fingers, thumbs were fine) on my Stumpy after 8-10 miles of technical trails with lots of turning and roots, something I could manage though, by releasing my grip, holding my hands up.

but with the Epic Evo flat bar, it gotten worse and happens earlier. Not only numb fingers, including my thumbs, but especially the part of the palm around the thumb. I try to re-grip and change my hand position, without success.

Anyone changed the bars on the Epic Evo, not sure if I should go back to a more trail bars with more sweep and bar bend?

My wife went with a 15mm rise Thompson bar and is happy, but she's more xc style of a rider.(no air time)
I'm also coming from the stumpjumper and will be getting the evo in the air more and have shorten reach and increased rise to suit my style.
Just need to test when weather is better.

When riding XC type stuff with the stock bars my index and middle finger, and thumb get numb like you describe. It's related to this.
Numbness of hands and fingers

I'm using the SQ Labs bar with 16* bend on my Epic EVO and love it.

If I'm riding more gravity-focused stuff on a longer travel bike, in a much more active "ready position", with "normal" oem-type bars, my fingers don't get numb.

I changed my bars to narrower ones. I went with 720mm bars that have nearly the same sweep and back bend, my numb hands got better but not totally resolved. There is a trade off to the narrower bars but really not that different. I have Raceface flat bars (5mm rise but that is almost flat) now. I use my bike to commute to work too and I commute to the trails, it's the road riding that really gets my hands numb. I move them around on the bars but sometimes I just have to have them hovering over the breaks in traffic so I'm locked into holding the grips. Getting my wrist just a little more straight helps. On the other end of the ride, the down hill riding really has not suffered from the narrower bars, at first it was noticeable but by the end of the first ride I was used to it. I think riser bars might help if you want to keep the width but I stayed with the flat bars to keep the climbing ability of the bike. I'm also 5'8" so 720 bars are not super narrow for my size. You could try cutting your bars down a little at a time If you want to try narrower bars.

If you're having hand issues, you may also want to try push on rather than lock on grips. No hard plastic lock on sleeve between the grip and the bar means more cushion. Spray a little adhesive or clear spray paint inside the grip before installation and they stay put. They're cheap too, usually $10-12.
