Has anyone heard any rumors of the Jumbo Jim coming to us in a 27.5" x4 or bigger?? Out of all the 26" Fatty tires I have ridden, I thought they were the best. I now went to the 27.5" size rim and would hope they come out soon.
I was thinking maybe trying some snakeskins, not now! Thanks for the tip! My Liteskins JJ 4.0 rock! Maybe I'll pick up a spare, as they are on sale. Hope it's not a closeout! All in for 27.5 x 4 and 29 x 3 Liteskins for Sarge III!!!
I had a pair of Nobby Nic 3.0's in snakeskin and they were slow af compared to a pair of the same size in Performance. Gave the snakesklins away because they rolled like squares and were dead as hell for trialsin, deal breaker...
I use Orange since the Endurance and low temp stuff work and Stan's can jump in a river! My main expectation is that my tires have a consistent feel and most of the sealants piss me off since the **** dries out to a hard as fvck layer making my tires feel like there are thorn proof tubes and weigh as much as a bowling ball, just fvcking no...I was thinking maybe trying some snakeskins, not now! First season they weeped a bit from the sidewall. This season after mounting them, no weeping. I was expecting the same but the sealant must have sealed them up after drying. I just wipe them out.
Oh man, I hope they do decide on some 27.5x4, 4.4, and 4.8 JJs.Rumors of a 27.5" Jumbo Jim might happen. Anyone hear the same?
I have also not heard anything, but would put money down ASAP on a set of 4.0s and 4.8s. Liteskin of course...Rumors of a 27.5" Jumbo Jim might happen. Anyone hear the same?
I couldn't agree more! I hated the snakeskin tires enough to give a couple pair away to get em the fvck outta my sight and far away from my bikes. The sluggish feel of a Nobby Nic 3.0 snakeskin vs. Performance that just rails was enough to make the snakeskins go away...I have also not heard anything, but would put money down ASAP on a set of 4.0s and 4.8s. That red... So bitchen!:thumbsup:I'll second the Barbegazi's
I've been running Studded Gnarwhals for the past two Winters for snow/ice.
...but always go back to the faster rolling, lighter Barbegazi's for everything else.
(Both 120tpi and 4.5x27.5)
Studded Gnars ~1560gms
Barb's weigh in at ~1250gm
(even lighter than the smaller 3.8 Hodag's)
Both actually measure close to 4.25" on 80mm wheels

I'll take 4 pairs of 27.5 x 4 liteskins for my bikes please!!!Emailed Schwalbe again and also linked this thread... Let's work em over and see if we can get tires into production through showing our desire to purchase and ride em...
On my list of important considerations in a winter tire, weight is a distant 5th out of 5. It just doesn't matter....will be doing so on 27.5 tires that weigh a ton. IMHO, if a company would make a light 27.5 fat tire they would absolutely revolutionize fat biking over night and help numerous bike companies sell their product.
If they were availaable... Sarge III would be offa Nutrsystem, Weight Watchers and the rest of the weight loss programs!I'll take 4 pairs of 27.5 x 4 liteskins for my bikes please!!!
With the whole uber bug thing putting bike sales through the roof, it will be interesting to see if this momentum carries over into fat bike sales for the winter. It's a shame that all those people that test ride smile generators (fat bikes) this winter will be doing so on 27.5 tires that weigh a ton. IMHO, if a company would make a light 27.5 fat tire they would absolutely revolutionize fat biking over night and help numerous bike companies sell their product.
When it comes to winter at high elevation, I like a tire as supple as possible with paddle like treads that emulate the track on my sled. Do I consider weight? Pfft, No. It happens to be a 4.8 or 5.05, at that point weight became moot.On my list of important considerations in a winter tire, weight is a distant 5th out of 5. It just doesn't matter.
Suggesting that it's important or will somehow "revolutionize" fat bikes or sales suggests a certain naïveté. That, or maybe you just don't need fat tires at all.
If anybody from Schwalbe reads this, please don't think the comment from Mikesee would play down the importance of a Jumbo Jim weight class tire for 27.5 fat bikes. I live in a state that has snow 5-months out of the year and a few hundred miles of groomed trails to ride fat bikes on. We sell fat bikes during the winter months, but don't even stock them the rest of the year. Much of the time we hear people pass on buying a fat bike because they see its use potential as limited because of the weight; they just don't want to ride heavy tires on single track during the summer months up here. If there was a light weight tire option for 27.5" fat bikes during the summer months I would definitely call this revolutionary as it might then make sense to sell fat bikes year around. Most people will either choose between a mountain bike or a fat bike and they just feel like they will use the mountain bike more often in the summer and just stick with a bike trainer in the winter. With heavy tires its just hard to sell a fat bike with 27.5" tires as a one arrow quiver for riding year around. On my list of important considerations in a winter tire, weight is a distant 5th out of 5. Key words right there.unless we sell them on the weight value
I'm one who if a lightweight 27.5" Fat tire was available (Sub 1000 grams), I would have kept my Farley for riding all 12 months. I just couldn't and I really tried to get on the wagon of the 27.5" tire for all year riding. But the added weight was one thing I couldn't get adjusted to. Before my Farley I had a Pugsley with JJ and could hold my own on any trail with riders on lightweight 29" bikes. Once I got on my Farley, the added weight of the 27.5" tire felt like a anchor to get moving and I could really feel the weight on climbs. I have sold the Farley to move on to something else, probably go back to my old Pugs and the Lightweight JJ tires. I feel if a 27.5" JJ could happen, it would change alot of peoples view on Fat bikes and they could enjoy them 12 months and not have to suffer to much. Again, this is all my opinion and just my $0.02If anybody from Schwalbe reads this, please don't think the comment from Mikesee would play down the importance of a Jumbo Jim weight class tire for 27.5 fat bikes. For the pioneers that want to be the first rider out and blaze the trail after 4-6" of fresh powder, Mikesee's comments have some value. However up here, there is only a small percentage of riders that want to be the first one out on the trail and for those riders there are currently lots of options for tires. Its for the summer riders and the groomed trail riders seeking a lighter ride is where there is not much in the way of a good option for 27.5" fat tires, unless we sell them on the weight value of moving to a 26" set of wheels in order to use Jumbo Jims during the summer months.
Gnarwhal 4.5 and Colossus is around the same weight as the Bud. Barbegazi is actually pretty light for it's size at 1250-1280 ish grams. I've always really liked how Bonty tires last and grip myself, but more options are never a bad thing. Also I like the 26 x 4.4" JJ's I have pretty well. Are 27.5 fat tires that heavy?
I ride 26x4.8 JJ's in Summer, and 4.8 Buds for Winter/Spring weather. I know the JJ's are lighter, but I don't feel any real difference/penalty between them.
:???:
I have 2 summer sets that I run both of which have carbon rims. My 27.5x50 wheelset has 45id wide rims with Tune hubs and it is still about 100g heavier (without tires) than my single wall 26x80 rims with DT Swiss hubs (without tires). The tires on my 27.5 are Hodags at 1,240g per tire and on the 26" I run lightskin JJ at 990g per tire. In this case, my 27.5 set all in is about 600g heavier than my 26" set. Since this is rotational mass, I really feel the difference. I use my 26" set for races (when I enter the fat class) that are not that technical, but use my 27.5" set when I need to raise my bottom bracket for just a bit more clearance. Are 27.5 fat tires that heavy?
