No insider info, but I doubt it. I think in their normal product cycles there will be another year. Probably next sea otter. The pinkbike podcast said a bunch of new down country bikes are about to get released. So if you're thinking about a new bike and might skew more to the 120 range it could be worth waiting a few weeks.Do we anticipate SC introducing an updated Blur later this summer, beyond new colors? Maybe something with more internal cable routing (sorry but that rear brake line looks so 10yrs ago) and 3-pos fork/shock instead of the remote lock-out. I'm about to pull the trigger on a '20 Blur but would be willing to wait a few months if there's an update coming.
No. SC product cycles are 3 years. We will just see another color change. And speaking of which, we should have gotten the updated colors for other models at this point. Everything has been delayed due to the pandemic. FWIW, my wife's '20 blur took months to arrive last fall. Same with my highball. If you wait for the new color, you might be able to lessen your wait time. Also, the Blur is an amazing rig!Do we anticipate SC introducing an updated Blur later this summer, beyond new colors? Chris from real world cycling says no. Theee is so little movement in the upper it's not worthwhile. Considering he sells them, that tells me all I need to know.Changing my Blur to a more "trail" spec. Putting a 120 fork on, sending the rear shock to Fox to install a 3 position lever instead of the remote. I've already installed a needle bearing on the shock lower pivot, any value in doing the same in the upper pivot when i reinstall? The upper is definitely stiffer than the lower needle bearing is.
I wondered about the same thing since it opens shock options and I don't like the remote on the Blur shock but ultimately ended up sending my shock into Fox to get it changed to the 3 position set-up.Anyone have a 170x35 blur shock that they'd be interested in selling?
Also, has anyone considered using a 6.5x1.5 (165x38) shock on these bikes? If you used an offset bushing in the forward eyelet to lengthen the e2e (I wouldn't feel as comfortable running one on the rear eyelet because of the additional rotation there) you'll end up with a 167x38. Some quick calculations indicate that this would drop the bb by 5.5mm, slacken the bike by 0.225 degrees, and increase travel to 108.5mm. Obviously clearances at the seat-tube and linkages would need to be checked to ensure that there wouldn't be any interference. I have the opportunity to buy a frame sans shock, and 6.5 x 1.5 is a much more common size so it would open up a lot of shock options and much better deals.

I have a Cane Creek DB Air IL I bought here on mtbr forums but ended up not installing and have been meaning to put on Pinkbike. It can be easily converted to remote (would require buying kit from CC). Chubbier than the Fox but performance would be improved (I have one on my 5010 and it's amazing.)Anyone have a 170x35 blur shock that they'd be interested in selling?

I'd take a look at the new Transition Spur too.Talk me in or out of a BLUR! I'm pretty new to mountain biking but ridden enough to know that my Timberjack hardtail isn't ideal for the sort of riding that appeals to me. It is too heavy, head angle too steep, and my quads are sick of being the rear suspension. I don't have XC racer aspirations but trail oriented XC bikes seem to be my sweet spot for riding position and versatility. At 135lb and no interest in huge drops, my priority is super lightweight and just enough suspension to have some fun downhill. My top contenders are the Blur, Canyon Lux, and Yeti SB115 with Blur seemingly the best fit despite the hassle of perhaps speccing it from scratch.
The main changes I'm after are XT brakes/drivetrain (non Shimano brakes is a deal breaker), non-remote rear shock, non-remote SID Select 120mm fork (100mm stock fork seems limiting), and need a dropper. I was told by my local SC dealer that no other rear shock is possible for the blur, but that doesn't seem right. What are the proven options there? My goal is 25lb and around $5k.
Given these mods, would it cheaper and/or less hassle to buy a complete and sell off components or just start from a frame? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
