It will ride fine and should slacken the bike out nicely. Just keep in mind, it will void your warranty.
I spoke with Giant Bicycle Canada on facebook few months back. Funny how giant states the bike is capable for both sizes. They never once mentioned it voiding my warranty. Wouldn't that be important to mention... Seems like It won't void the warranty if I go with 120mm

Can anybody comment on the geometry of the XTC? I'm looking for a new XC/trail hardtail and have been offered one in trade for my Rush. Previously, I had a scott scale which I LOVED, but it's faded from memory a bit. My big concern is the head angle, which is 2* steeper on the XTC.

The XTC is 71.5 which is great for climbing, racing and if you like flowing singletrack; however its a handful on technical descents and anything real steep or long duration downhills. I ride a large and it came stock with a 110 mm stem and flat bar, I put a 100 mm and a 3/4" rise bar with my Ergo grips and that helped. I tend to ride a lot of combination rides where its flowy, fireroads and technical trails so I am going with something a little less step on my next bike and will be selling the XTC soon.

Thanks for that!

Most of my trails are short and punchy, ups and downs, tight NE singletrack, so the steeper HA could work. We don't have a lot of flow, most of it is constantly technical, pick your path sort of stuff.

Here`s mine. About a year and a half old now.

Size small
Fox Float 29 Kashima
Stan's Crest, Hope Pro II Evo, DT Comp Spokes
1x10 XTR w/ Raceface 34t narrow wide ring
Thomson Masterpiece post, Elite stem
Enve Sweep bar
ESI Grips
Fizik Tundra saddle
XTR pedals
Conti X-King 2.2 Protection, running tubeless

Running the fork remote under the bar in place of the front shifter. Pulled the decals off the rims, looks much better now. Also running a non shadow plus rear derailleur, had no problems with it.

My new (to me) 2012 XTC Comp 0

Love at first ride. Upgraded the handlebars to my old carbon ones, swapped out saddle for more cushion. New captain and purgatory tubeless just put on. Ready to get dirty!

XTC Composite Weight loss

So how can I dump some weight? I see carbon framed bikes in magazines that are up to 4 lbs lighter. Yes, I realize that the XTC Composite is not a 2 lb frame. Even if it is a portly 3.5 lbs, I don't see how I can get from 24 to say 22.

I know the stock SRAM S1000 crankset is a brick at 900+ grams. Going to a Next SL double should save 300+ grams.

Avid Elixir 1 brakes are over 400g each, so that could save 140 ish grams

What else?
I purposely dumped the Rocket Rons. Yes, light but... not too confidence inspiring.

My XTC composite 29er (2013). Carbon frame, handlebars, stem, seat post, Stans Arch EX / Hope hoops wheel set, Hope M4 front and rear, SRAM X0 running gear, SRAM XX Cassette, SRAM PC1091R Chain, full titanium bolt set, DMR Vault Pedals, Continental speed king tyres, ESI Chunky grips, FIZIK Alante VS saddle.

Your tires are tanks. You can't go weight weenie until you are ready to ride lighter tires. I personally love Rocket Rons. Light weight and great grip. Your cranks and brakes need to go, as do your wheels. If you aren't willing to make those changes, you should just enjoy the bike, as is.

Pull the cranks and look around the bottom bracket. Sounds just like my issue that resulted in cracked chain stay near their flimsy aluminum chain guard. Giant puts inserts in their bottom brackets. I believe mine cracked at one of these inserts or where the BB connects to the rear triangle.

It looks like Giant is discontinuing the XTC Composite and all other Composite bikes starting 2015. None are shown on their website and the Toray 600 that "Composite" frames were made from is no longer available.

what are you talking about discontinued ?

I have a new 2015 Defy composite coming

and have been riding a 2015 XTC Advanced Composite for two weeks now

wtf are you smoking ?

my new 2015 is a 27.5 XTC composite

and looky here a brand new composite 29'er XTC
XTC Advanced 29er 1 (2015) | Giant Bicycles | United States

Giant will -never- stop making composites, advanced, or advanced SL, these bikes rule and Giant is not stupid

Hmmm... I only see Defy Advanced, Defy Advanced Pro, and Defy Advanced SL for carbon framed Defy on Giant's website. I don't see a Defy Comp model like in prior years - of which I am an owner.

The Comp is a lower level carbon fiber which it does not look like Giant is producing anymore, nor is the manufacturer of the composite material for that matter.

Giant has two types of carbon bike frames for all models (except the purely alum ones) in 2015. Advanced SL or Advanced. Do you mean they had a third one of lower grade and that is discontinued ?

That's exactly what I mean. Here is a link to the 2014 Giant Defy Composite that I own.

Defy Composite 2 (2014) | Giant Bicycles | United States

The Advanced models were more expensive and a lighter/higher level of carbon fiber than the Composite.

Technically the are all composites but Giant used to call their lowest level of carbon fiber "Composite" and the higher levels "Advanced"
