Today I apparently snagged the derailleur (X9) and snapped the cage which was plastic. Is there a noticeable and worthy difference between the X9 and X7 short cage derailleurs? The X7 is a little cheaper and from what little info I can find seems to perform about the same. If weight is the only difference then it's a no brainier as I only ride DH, the cheaper would suffice as a disposable part as long as the performance is up to par.

The X9 comes in different colors and looks cooler
I am running X7 on my bike for about a year with no problems. Have seen a few posts about issues with the X9 but no bad rap for the X7. Don't think there is major weight saving and the price made it a no brainier for me.

I just ordered the X7 and after reading this I feel better that I got it. I twisted my SX4 all to hell and snapped the Derail. hanger and had to hump 5 miles out of the woods the other day!!
